Heath Shuler Holds On To Lead in Latest Poll

OnPoint Polling and Research yesterday released the latest numbers from our NC-11 campaign between Charles Taylor and Heath Shuler. The numbers reflect an electorate that, despite having voted for Taylor again and again, has grown increasingly tired of his ethical lapses and poor leadership. From the poll:

"...likely voters in North Carolina's Eleventh Congressional District favor Democratic challenger Heath Shuler over Republican incumbent Charles Taylor by 5 percentage points. Shuler leads 48% to 43%. With leaners, Shuler's lead is 50% to 46%."

In looking more closely at the data, it's clear that the sample is skewed away from the 18-29 year old age group. Since this age group is the most likely to be dissatisfied with the current Republican leadership, it leads me to believe that a big turnout among young voters could change this election from a squeaker to a blowout.

Now's the time to volunteer for Heath's campaign or send money.
Or get with the local Operation Democracy group that's "bird-dogging" Taylor.

Do something. If you don't, then you're just begging for two more years of Charles Taylor and a Republican majority in Congress.

and when monkeys fly out of my ass...

The 18-29 year olds showed up at a greater percentage last year than in past years, but it took a heck of a lot of work. Good luck getting them active this year, we need them!

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

This is great news

I knew things were still going well. There was some moaning going on at The Carolina Conservative. I'm pretty sure I copy and pasted that article. Meant to send it to you. It appears they've given up on old Chuckie T.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.

Screwy, how did the drinking liberally

night go last night? Wonder if you, as a group, have ever approached the media outlets out there and shown them how unbalanced their reporting is.

The last DFA night school claims that sometimes gathering articles and showing them (the editors/program managers) the stories of us v them with totals for each can sometimes help.

Also, have you started reaching out to any of the staff writers to create a relationship? It's working for me here in big red Moore county.

Momo

Yes, I know several of the staff writers. One of them is a good friend. However, this newspaper endorsed Taylor in 2004 despite having most of the same facts we have today.

I'm more interested in getting press in the smaller papers in rural communities. The AC-T will do what it will do. We'll keep getting our letters in there and in other Asheville publications, but I don't expect the paper to do much in the way of contextual reporting on Taylor.

The DL crowd was mucho gusto.

Probably won't work with the Sinclair

stations. But supposedly, the editors/managers really want their programs, articles to be "fair & balanced" and are usually willing to work with those who take the time to contact them.

I really like this tidbit from the internals

The two parties are at a statistical dead heat on who is trusted more in fighting terror.

Respondents are split on which party they trust more to keep American secure. Forty-seven percent trust Republicans more to fight terrorism overseas, and 46% trust Democrats. Republicans have a slight advantage when it comes to domestic security. Forty-nine percent trust Republicans more to keep “America’s planes, bridges and people” secure, while 44% trust Democrats more.

And this in a classic "purple" district where Shrub won by 14 points in '04.

Call me crazy, but if we get this district, the House has gone Democratic.

omg that's the funniest thing i've seen all day!

i'm normally not one to say "three cheers for the d-trip", but... three cheers for the d-trip! that's an awesome site!
