Hillary: "I'm in"
Hillary Clinton took the first step to run for President today announcing on her website with two words: "I'm in."
She finds herself the frontrunner (according to the latest Gallup Poll) among a growing field of Democratic competitors. I think it's important to remember, however, that at this time in the running for the 1992 Presidential Election, Bill Clinton was ranked eleventh, a spot currently held by Ohio congressman and outspoken critic of the war Dennis Kucinich.
I suppose you could consider this a sort of "open thread" concerning 2008, and Mrs. Clinton in particular. What hope does she have of finding support from Independents and moderate to conservative Democrats with an image that clearly defines her as a leftist? Will she even be able to get the nomination? And if she did, how can she defeat a Republican like Rudolph Giuliani, who holds major appeal to Independents and swing voters?

She can't.
Not in my opinion anyway. And her candidacy would be disastrous for down-ticket races in NC.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
I was gonna
post a diary about this about 1030, but it became too much of an Anti-Hillary rant.

You're kidding, right?
What hope does she have of finding support from Independents and moderate to conservative Democrats with an image that clearly defines her as a leftist?
The only folks who think she's a leftist are the dittoheads who would never vote for her anyway. Of the potential candidates so far, she and Vilsack will be fighting it out for the right wing of the Democratic party.
Yup
for some reason even people I know who are otherwise pretty bright when it comes to politics seem to think Hillary is far left.

i think that is her problem
if people dont know anything about her positions they believe the fox news bs. if people do know about her positions they are upset at them.
i dont think she gets past New Hampshire.

I think she wins New Hampshire.
Her husband still has major connections there. She also has a chance to win Arkansas, which will be a few weeks later. That puts her through the first round with a couple wins.
Then again, if every state continues moving up and front-loading the primaries, then she has a better chance, since she will be one of the few with money to sature the California market AND the other states.
If she can count on NY and try to win CA, then she stands a chance.
We all know what my thoughts are on whether or not she SHOULD win, but it would be silly to discount her. Too much money, too many connections, too many favors.
Where are the candidates?
Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

There's a reason I worded the question as I did.
It's not that she is a leftist, it's just that is how her image is broadly perceived. Of course, she can't compare to candidates such as Dennis Kucinich, but the media pays him no attention, so instead they choose to portray Hillary in that liberal light.

Nice to see, isn't it?
Still not considered a front runner by MSM, though. I suppose that's a good thing, because he can concentrate on building his "base", and let Clinton and Obama deal with Fox News.

Indeed
Give him a year of face time with primary voters and he'll be takin' names, too. :)
