How Amendment One fared in Paul "Skip" Stam's district

As the Democratic Candidate for N.C House in District 37, running against the Architect of Amendment One, I was curious as to what the results of the Amendment One vote were in Paul "Skip" Stam's district. The results for what has been commonly referred to as a "conservative district," were extremely encouraging:

For Amendment One: 50.1%
Against Amendment One: 49.9%

With nearly 30,000 votes, the difference in For/Against was about 80 votes.

The negative impacts of A1

are already being felt ... and will only accelerate this summer and into the fall.

What good is Stam's power if all it's being used for is domination of fellow citizens? If I were in Stam's district, I'd be calling for his head on a platter.

Where are these statistics from?

Not to question the validity of your stats, but there are several other districts in the state I'd like stats on Amendment One for, so if you could share where you got these, that would be great!

The State Board of Elections

The State Board of Elections website has the breakdown of the results of each precinct.

Right, I know, but many

Right, I know, but many precincts are split in the new districts. The lines are not necessarily the same for each and every district.

Not available in this state

Hi Travis, I have made calculations like this before for other elections where precincts were split. You can look at the proportion of registered voters in each district and then subdivide the votes for the amendment according to that result. But there is no truly scientific way to do it for a split precinct that I know of in this state, everything is an estimate. Some states like Pennysylvania and New York (as I write this I am sitting in a Greek restaurant in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan) do provide results for other offices at the district level but we do not at this point.

Should've known you'd know

Should've known you'd know for certain, Peter! Shame we don't -- but good to know for certain. Thanks!

Thanks

Although like I said, you can still make these calculations that while not exact are fairly accurate. Let me know if there's some districts you want analyzed and I'll email you the results and my methodology sometime.
