How not to ask for citizen input
As a homeowner at Emerald Isle, I get creepy emails from Walter Jones all the time. This one is typical, so I finally decided to write him back:
Dear Friend,
I would like your input on questions to ask at an upcoming hearing on the Federal Reserve’s money printing!
On Wednesday, February 9th, the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology is holding a hearing titled “Can Monetary Policy Really Create Jobs?” The subcommittee oversees the Federal Reserve, and as Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee under Chairman Ron Paul, I will be there to ask questions and demand answers regarding the employment problems facing the people of the 3rd District of North Carolina and across this nation.
The Federal Reserve has been printing massive amounts of money as part of a policy they call “Quantitative Easing”. In fact, the Fed is on track to print roughly $2 trillion over the last two years. The Fed’s money printing has been driving up prices for business and working families, while it continues to bail out Wall Street. The people of Eastern North Carolina are struggling at the grocery store and the gas pump and I think it is time to hold the Fed accountable. Printing money to drive up prices is killing consumers, and is no way to create jobs.
This is why I want to hear from you. I am asking the people of the 3rd District to tell me what questions or concerns that they would like asked or expressed during that hearing. While I may not be able to ask all of them, I will utilize as many as I can in the time that I am allotted in next week’s hearing.
Please visit my website and send me an email with your thoughts and questions for the witnesses at next week’s hearing.
Pardon my French, but is the whole Republican Congress made up of fucking idiots? Is Jones really so uninformed about our economy as to think that inflation is actually a problem right now? I suppose he is, which is scary beyond belief. And so I wrote him back:
Mr. Jones.
If you really wanted to know what people think, why on earth would you write such as pathetically slanted message?
We need jobs, in America, not deficit hysteria. The private sector is not creating jobs in any meaningful way, and that's not going to change anytime soon. In the meantime, our only hope is government spending, just like it was following the great Depression.
Republicans created this mess during eight years of George Bush, driving our nation into the toilet of irresponsible policies related to both spending and taxes. It's time to raise taxes on millionaires and cut spending on the insane wars we're fighting.
And just to say it, pretending to listen isn't the same as actually listening. I doubt you'll be including my response in your comments in the hearing next week.

Any staffer who includes an exclamation mark
in official public communications should be fired!
You can tell by the exclamation mark that I really mean it!
Seriously!
Fired!
Morons.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Jones is my representative
And he never sends me email. I guess I can be thankful for small favors.
!
It's really quite scary to realize just how utterly clueless some of these bozos are.
Perhaps instead of a civics test to vote one should be required to pass a test to qualify for candidacy. He won't include your remarks, but thanks for speaking for many of us in your response.
A little bit of government spending could mean the difference between bankruptcy and survival for my business by the end of the year. A lot of it might even allow me to create a few jobs in the process.

Walter!
Is Jones really so uninformed about our economy as to think that inflation is actually a problem right now* James
When was the last time you have been to Krogers to check the price of Goods? And when the last time you price Gold from a year ago? Walter might not be the brightest boy in the Republican camp, But he and Ron Paul are on target about the Federal Reserve System and the Goldman Sachs Corporate Bankgangtors that are murdering this country...Attack him for his Religious views or some other silly beliefs in a almighty, but leave the federal reserve attack alone. Ancient Rome had a quote, paraphasing.." If a Barbarian is attacking me and I have another Barbarian who is in my camp as a friend on my payroll, than turn loose my Barbarian on the other Barbarian and let the Dogs of wars destroy themselves together"
You're conflating issues
Food prices and gas prices, to my knowledge, have almost nothing to do with with the bogeyman of the Federal Reserve. Those areas of inflation have to do with growing demand in China and emerging markets. Because of that demand pressure, prices are going up no matter what economic policy we adopt here in our failing empire.
The party's over, but it's not to be blamed on the US Federal Reserve. It's to be blamed on irresponsible tax policy, two unnecessary wars, and the corporate takeover of our democracy. The Fed is a small cog in those big wheels.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
The Fed...

Of course, they are the blame! Using your own words, Who gave the massive tax breaks to the rich, funded two wars, make that 3 at the moment and the massive bailouts of foreign mega banks that we had no idea about though the printing of masssive currency that was created out of nothing! The FRS is a massive big gear and needs to be strip of this power in secrecy.. As you can see, I agree with you on about 90% of the issues......The Fed is a classic example of Fascism gone wild with Corporate Wall street power in our government at all levels in foreign and local affairs without accounting to no one.... One thing we know for sure! The present Republican Congress will let them off the hook as usual with a dog and pony show by Ron Paul who has no power to challege the Fed... As to your China answer! China was simply the answer to Wall Street problems many years ago to fund the massive destruction of our manufactoring base country toward massive debt that will never be paid by our kids nor Wal-Mart or Art Pope
