Is Howard Coble (finally) going to retire?

The Magic 8-Ball sez: Who the hell is Howard Coble?

In an interview with News & Record staff writer Mark Binker, Coble acknowledged rumors that he won’t seek re-election next year. He hasn’t decided yet. That’s significant in itself. Coble won the 6th District seat in 1984 and successfully defended it in the next 13 elections.

But apparently his Republican buddies in the Legislature didn't feel the need to protect his District:

Now he’s reached a crossroad. The new 6th District, rearranged by the Republican state legislature, presents a challenge. It gives him several counties, or parts of counties, he has not represented before and leans a little less to Republicans’ advantage. He certainly could win, but it would require more effort.

And more money, which non-aggressive (lukewarm) politicians sometimes have a little trouble gathering.

This could get interesting...

Part of me says...

Finally! It's been time for Howard to go for far too long.

The other part of me is looking for a corner to hide in as one of the most likely Republicans in line to step into the slot is Greensboro's own Billy Yow. If Yow ever becomes my Congressman I'll have to seriously consider pulling up stakes. The *derp* is strong with that one.

Thanks NC Legislature

Coble has been our guy for years. Now that the lines are redrawn, we'll probably end up with Ellmers. NOT a move in the right direction.
