The Inauguration of Barack Obama

We are saying goodbye to a president who would look at those Americans who oppose him and say, "I will fight you," and we are greeting a president who will look at those Americans who oppose him and say, "I will fight for you."

Please join us for our full collection of inauguration day posts, videos and pictures. Join us as we chat about today's events and relive some of our favorite moments of the campaign season.

If bandwidth and traffic allow we will carry a live feed of the inauguration here on BlueNC.  Please use this space to tell us what today means to you.  Feel free to share your photos, videos and favorite moments from the campaign trail in the comments or write your own blog post.

The long nightmare is over.  We are on the road to recovery.  As long and tough as this road may be, even my Republican friends who did not vote for Barack Obama seem to share in the hope many of us here feel.

Do you feel the hope?

I think everyone is enjoying the view on tv

and out in their yards.  We have a beautiful snowy day here today.

I'm watching the parade

I just saw a group of people holding signs that read, "Arrest Bush."

The crowds are absolutely going wild.  The walk has ended and I'm sure the men and women charged with taking a bullet are breathing a sigh of relief.

Think back, everyone

How many signs used to read "impeach Clinton"?

C'mon, folks.  Look, next thing we're gonna see on this blog is blasting Bush
for his "pardons".  Now...few people don't know about the Clinton pardons.  This
is just a presidential perogative...given to them many years past.  It's just how it
is.  Let's "look forward, not backward" as Obama said.

Okay????????????????????????????????????

If we don't study our history we are doomed to repeat it

....now you wouldn't want that, would you?

Listen Smitty.  I'm reporting what I see while I watch the parade.  Chill.

Also, you will find many of us here love history.  I guarantee not one of us is going to let Bush go softly into that good night, especially if he and his cronies and apoligists plan to rewrite or attempt to rewrite what the rest of us lived through.

Listen, Betsy...

Look...much as some here think I'm "stupid", I'm not.  I know your standing here.

I am not here saying Bush was a good prez.  You know that and it's saddens me

that you even think I would let Bush "go softly".  I know that right now, dems are

all about how terrible the cons/repubs were in the past 8 years and how super the

next 8 years are gonna be.  I was a mirror image of that when Reagan was elected.  I've already said that and I'm not gonna get into some kind of repub/dem pissing match here and you can bet
I'm intelligent enough to know that

you and many here on your blog are gonna trash the Bushman...and rightly so.

If you're looking for reasons to look "lib/demo"...I'm the poster you can do so with.

There's more to our country than just one side of the equation.  If ya don't think so, you're

missing Obama's point...and sadly mistaken.

The best thinking is independent thinking.

Look Smitty

I'm not starting every criticism of Republicans with, "now this doesn't apply to Smitty."  If it doesn't apply to you, then don't take it personally.  I'm not speaking directly to you.  While I'm glad you're here, this is a site for Progressives and us dirty nasty libruls, so that is my natural audience.  I'm not attacking you and I've never called you stupid or dumb.  From now on just assume we're talking about the asshat variety Republican and not you.  :D

Let's all learn how to "get back up"

I'm here to say that the Bushman...the republican majority for 6 of the last 8 years in congress...let us down.  We can spend our efforts pointing that out to people...people that already know this.  It's like, um, HELLO...we already knew this.

We need to "pick ourselves up".  Here's a video.  If you don't want to watch it...or if you don't think it's how we, as Americans have to be going forward...just discount it.

It's EXTREMELY inspiring.  I'm gonna change my opinion on much of what I have been raised/led to believe.  I'm willing to change...I'm willing to learn and do what I have to do to make my country great again.  I wonder just how many folks truly believe as I do.  I will trash anything that "gives" people things they aren't willing to work for.  I will trash anything that "doesn't require initiative".

I wasn't raised that way.

I truly believe most that disagree with me on many other issues also believe as I do on this.

Time to stop "looking back"...time to GO FOWARD...as I've said here already before and as is true to the bone.

I am willing to look forward.

But I'm not willing to look away from what I consider to be the crimes of GWB and his administration. He's more than just a bad President, in my opinion. I think that most Americans are smart enough to look forward to working together as well as being mindful of the misdeeds of the past.  If we, as a country, choose to say, "Oh the hell with it, he's out of office now, why bother?", we will forget the illegal wiretapping, the destruction of Constitutional rights, and unnecessary wars.

I'm not willing to do that.

Fine, Linda

I can't fault you for being irate over the Bush years.  They were, most certainly, horrendous.

I know that, most of the republican party knows that, most of the entire WORLD knows that.

If you don't have as your focus "looking back" to the Bush years and being the kind of demo that every time there's a demo mistake or whenever or if ever Obama fails or makes a mistake says .... "yeah, but Bush did it too"...then I'm with ya, girl.

We ALL have to be mindful of the past...but more importantly...dedicated to the future.

Nor will I

I will also not start every criticism of democrats with "now this doesn't apply to Betsy".  If it doesn't apply to you, then don't take it personally".  If I make it "to you" then, I'll say so.

From now on, let's assume that if I question something a democrat does or says...it's not about you.

I think both of us can agree that's fair.

The best thinking is independent thinking.

It will be so good to have the criminals out of office

and a good man who I feel will look out for the well being of ALL Americans working from the White House for the people.

North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!

Yeah, I have to say I felt a lift when the noontime...

arrived, knowing that the two mental cases, Bush and Cheney, wouldn't be able to stir up World War 3. Obama's staff can look forward to carrying out their plan, but the Congress must have some committees study the events of the last eight years in order to set some laws or regulations if needed. Bush and the crooks have refused to cooperate with subpoenas and directives issued by Congress. This has caused enough confusion to wonder if we have a monarchy or a republic form of government. Our government can operate on many fronts and issues at the same time, as Barack Obama has already said, and made plans for.

LIstening to NPR Monday I heard Dr. King's "Dream Speech"

In it's entirety. Approximately 24 hours later I heard President Obama give his Inaugural Address. In the course of my lifetime the United States has come to be a place, not just of hope for racial equality, but of real achievement regarding leveling the racial playing field. This country has changed, and I hope that the acceptance and openmindedness that brought an African American to the presidency, will grow to include every member of our society so that all the downtrodden, all the slighted, all the left back, will have an equal chance at attaining their dreams.

Cell phones will be to the 21st century what tobacco was to the 20th.

Obama "earned" his right

I support Obama because of his background...his tenaciousness...his dedication to achieve.

Let's all not lose sight of the fact that in our society, many expect to be "given" their prosperity.

That's a HUGE rift with a HUGE amount of folks.

Obama is someone we all can and should support and honor for becoming who he is through hard work and dedication to his principles.

Let's not think that this is everyone's ambition.

Obama has spoken to this in many of his speeches...and I fully admire him for it.
