Introducing My DNC Vlog

So, I'm off to Denver on Sunday. I'm an Obama delegate, representing NC's 4th Congressional district. For months, I've been trying to figure out a way to document my trip that will be fun for me an interesting to everyone back in the Great North State.

I've settled on a video blog idea. James and Betsy have agreed that BlueNC can be the home for the vlog. I'll be contributing to the team effort of BlueNCers who will all be reporting in from Denver during the week.

I'm trying out a new citizen journalism technique I've invented called a "mutual interview." To learn what it is, watch my first vlog post here:

Let me know what you think of the idea. How can I make it work? Who should I talk with? What should I ask them?

Here are a list of people I'm looking to interview based on the events I'm planning to attend and people I've talked with already: Jefferson Smith, Rabbi Michael Lerner, Rev. Tony Campolo, Elvis Mitchell, and Will Burns. From our North Carolina Delegation, I'll probably try to interview Jerry Meek and a few elected officials. My wife is happy that I'm passing up a chance to meet Charlize Theron at a film screening in order to attend the Emily's List party with Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi. Think I can get one of them on camera? I might just try to get Hillary's autograph for my mom.

Just a little more about me, so you know where this is all coming from. I'm a social worker and I run a support program for students of color in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. I'm a member of the NCDP State Executive Committee and active with the Orange County Democratic Party. I've volunteered for the Obama, Kissell, and Neal campaigns this year. I'm also a board member for Traction. I'm particularly interested in education, race relations, immigration, peace, and the media.

I'll probably be posting vlogs each morning starting Tuesday. I look forward to chatting with you after each post!

I love it!

Graig, you're brilliant! You make us proud. (And by *us*, I mean young people, North Carolinians, BlueNCers, and Tractivists.) This is so, so cool.

Feel like you're spinning your wheels?
Get some Traction... turning energy into progressive movement

I'll be on the radio Friday

WUNC is having some delegates (2 Dems, 2 GOP) on The State of Things during Friday's show. Listen live at noon or catch it later. It's also available through the intertubes here.

Who knows why they want to talk to delegates BEFORE the convention? But it should be fun.

This is wonderful, Graig!

I'd love for you to talk with people from some of the other state blogs that we've become familiar with because of the 50 state round up. I'd also like for you to catch up with Phillip Gilfus, one of our other BlueNCer's who's going to be out there - as a Clinton delegate. Then it's on to our congressional delegation. Find as many of NC's congressman as you can. And then, talk to Obama. hahaha.

Also - interview Betsy Muse and Pam Spaulding. I know that seems redundant since they'll be blogging, but a conversation is different. As for questions, I don't know what to ask - I'm sure you'll think of something!

I truly love this idea -- and since I can't go to the convention, I'm glad you're going to be there, along with Betsy, Phillip, Pam and TMD to give us the perspective from the convention floor.

I'll be looking for you in your Uncle Sam hat. Somehow, I don't think you'll be the only one!

Graig...you crack me up!

James and I agreed to host at BlueNC? Let's put it this way...you were kind enough to keep us from having to beg you to post these at BlueNC. That's more how it looks from my perspective.

This is wonderful. I'm delighted, proud, excited that you are doing this and posting them to BlueNC.

Graig,

you are front and center on my google home page and I will check in on your updates. Great idea! I don't have any suggestions for whom to interview...but get a tripod! :)

You need to be twittering.

You can do it from your phone and it will update everyone. Plus, you can set it up to send out a message when you upload a new video. Betsy can help with that part, but twittering itself is super easy to setup. Just go to twitter.com and pow, you're done.

Also, think about doing some UStream, which you can do live and people can type in questions while you do the interview.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Have Fun!

Have a great time Graig! I look forward to all of your reports.

Apparently Ali is going to be at the convention, so you should try and get an interview with him. Im sure no one else will have the same idea....

Graig, heard you on the radio yesterday afternoon. I was laughing that Betsy was included as a "Triangle area blogger" along with Pam.

I thought that was funny too, Greg.

I looked at the rider in my car and said "Back that up!" as if you could back up the radio. "Did they just say Betsy Muse was from the Triangle Area?"

Barack ON!

Or more rather Rock On!

Excellent!

Graig-
This is awesome! We here in Chicago will be watching too. I've been volunteering with New Media here at headquarters for a year and a half. I'll let them know about this too.
