IRS going after Art Pope's shell-game?

In any honest discussion, the funding schemes Art Pope uses to influence elections and public policy in North Carolina would be called money laundering.

  • Big donors like David H. Koch and George Soros could owe taxes on their millions of dollars in contributions to nonprofit advocacy groups that are playing an increasing role in American politics. Americans for Prosperity, a libertarian group that opposes many of President Obama’s policies, has been generously financed by David H. Koch, a billionaire. Invoking a provision that had rarely, if ever, been enforced, the Internal Revenue Service said it had sent letters to five donors, who were not identified, informing them that their contributions may be subject to gift taxes depending on whether the donations exceeded limits under the tax laws.

Pope's network of think tanks is nothing more or less than an arm of the Republican party. They should have had their tax-exempt status revoked along ago. This possible action by the IRS would be a step in the right direction.

To my knowledge.
