IRS Ramping Up for Excessive Taxation

Sovereign debt is fast becoming a world-wide problem. Here at home, the political calculations and machinations that will be undertaken in an attempt to deal with our own debt - and to do so without angering a majority of the voting public - means higher taxes for the productive and, through increased business taxes, on the unsuspecting masses as well. Expect to see a VAT imposed here in the U.S., and expect to see the imposition of carbon taxes - not because it's the right thing to do (it's not), but because it's anticipated as an important revenue source in the administration's forward-looking budget.

Tax enforcement, which in the U.S. is already the most systematic and stringent in the world, will only get tougher. With a special focus on the wealthy or those who look to move assets overseas- the same people who already pay the vast majority of the nation's tax revenue. Fair share be damned. From here on out, if you've got any fleece left, it's getting sheared.

OMG!

Having laws and enforcing them. The horrors!

Laws and enforcing them..

I will most likely be trashed for this but "Laws and enforcing them" is and has sadly been one of the most lackluster efforts of our country for a very long time.

Illegals immigrants..need I say more?

Medicare fraud..need I say more?

Medicaid fraud..need I say more?

Ignoring tax liability by individuals specifically and, of course, by corporations..need I say more?

If the state and federal governments actually ENFORCED their laws in many cases, this country would be a VERY different country. But, alas, that has not happened and will not happen, IMO. If I told my reasons here for that, it would just ignite partisan controversy I choose not to light.

Global IRS

This post doesn't have too much to do with current laws enforced within our borders, since the US does a better job than any other country on the planet with enforcing its taxation. The article discusses new efforts to create a global taxation administration in order to prevent other countries from luring wealthy Americans in anticipation of excessive taxation - perhaps as high as 91%.

Tax day coming, y'all

April 15th...don't forget, y'all. Oh, yeah, I know..everyone knows. Well, unless you're a high-level appointed/elected government official, make sure you get those taxes filed on time, y'hear?

I'm SO bad !!!!

Sure Dap. Mine are done,

Sure Dap. Mine are done, I've sent in what I owe and glad to have it behind me.

I'm a moderate Democrat.

Perhaps I misread the article, but it seems

to focus on compliance of the ultra wealthy because their income is often geographically dispersed as well as situationally complex.

I don't care for the IRS. In their eyes, and within their powers, one is guilty until proven innocent. If they're having a hard time taxing the wealthy it's because Congress created a 14,000+ page tax code that probably no single individual understands.

We need a simple tax law and an easier and more economical way of collecting the taxes. We won't get it because Congress won't do it. Too many hands stuffing money in their pockets to ensure complexity and loopholes so highly paid tax accountants and lawyers continue to eat and the rich avoid taxes legally.

IMO....

Taxing Labor = Slavery

We need a simple tax law and an easier and more economical way of collecting the taxes.

I suppose we could always refer to that old moldy parchment and have the federal government simply assign each State their share of the federal government's bill as stated in the Constitution. Get rid of income taxation once and for all since it is unconstitutional and nothing more than modern day slavery. Even the poorest of Americans, that can ill afford to pay income tax, get the fruits of their labor stolen from them each and every paycheck, without any say-so at all. At the end of the year, they get it all back without interest or so much as a 'thank you' letter from Massa Sam. The 16th Amendment is a joke and there is even a legitimate legal argument to be made that it was never properly ratified.

Where's the professional politician that is running on ending modern day slavery once and for all? Let me guess. There aren't any. Go figure. Hmmm....
