Is John Hood Trying to Kiss and Make Up?
As I perused the online edition of my local fish-wrap, I noticed this in the opinion section.
Founding Fathers were bloggers
The piece was written by John Locke President (and BlueNC BFF) John Hood.
He opens with...
Well, OK, let me rephrase that. Many of the Founders were the 18th-century equivalent of a certain category of modern-day bloggers — writers on political topics, typically using a pen name, who are also connected to formal journalism and simultaneously active in partisan politics.
John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, Gouveuneur Morris — these and other notables of the Founding were not just drafters and signers of America’s founding documents, wartime leaders, statesmen, diplomats, and jurists. They were also prolific media commentators capable of great works of political philosophy as well as ribald jests, character assassination and political rumor-mongering.
Wow. He's just compared all of us with the most important men in American history and maybe even provided a little justification for our writing as being "just another American leadership trait."
Give it a read. It's interesting to say the least...

Fat chance
Why would a person who is infallibly right (both literally and figuratively) about everything, and who also runs a "multi-million-dollar opinion-manufacturing" organization, try to make up with anyone?
When I read the column last week, it didn't make much sense to me, and when I read it again today, it made even less.
Don't worry though, whatever he said, the point was the same as it always is: "Let the free market reign. Screw a bunch of poor people. Privatize anything that moves. And don't interfere with the Puppetmaster."
Actually Thomas, it comes across to me that he's comparing
himself with the founding fathers. I hope their ghosts haunt him!

I think you're both right.
If he's trying to make bloggers look good, it's for his own reasons, not ours.
Momo, I think you're spot on with the comparing himself with the Founding Fathers. His actions, spending millions of dollars to push one particular ideology is what he justifies by Jefferson and Hamilton's similar activity.
By no means is my post any sort of 'can't we all just get along' message. I found it particularly humorous that, after attempting to lambaste BlueNC, he'd make such a statement that we're following in such deep and storied footprints.
