Is Sue Myrick Retiring?
A friend nudged me in the direction of this
Charlotte Observer rumor mill piece printed yesterday that tossed the idea in the air that Pat McCrory might run for Sue Myrick's seat if she retires. Funny, we were having that discussion here way back at the end of November.
State Sen. Robert Pittenger, according to the Observer, has already made it known that he would run for Myrick's seat if she vacates it. With all this rumor mongering by the Observer it does lead me to believe something is up with Sue. Maybe she isn't well enough to continue serving, or maybe she does plan to run for Dole's seat.
I've also heard through the grapevine that McCrory might consider a run for Lt. Governor, but I'm not sure I see that. McCrory's not a bad guy for a Republican, but my fear is that he would get to Washington and step in line with all the other wingers. I know Pittenger would.
There's no suspense over who will be throwing his hat in the ring for a possible run against the Republican nominee. Bill Glass has announced he will run again in 2008. I haven't heard any rumors as to whether there are any other Democrats wanting a chance at this seat.
It's probably going to be a while before we find out.

Minority
Being a Minority member in the House sucks, just ask David Price and Brad Miller. I'm guessing Sue might be wishing she had kept her Contract with America promise last year instead of getting greedy.
The House is going to be Blue for a good long while, IMO. It'll take at least ten years for the Dems to screw up as badly as the Party of Greed has since 1994. Bush has led his party over a cliff and they have a good long ways to fall.
Since Myrick is my
Since Myrick is my congresswoman...unfortunately, I'd love to see any change in that seat. For lack of a better phrase, she is the lapdog of the Republican party. If a Democrat doesn't win it, then McCroy would be much better than Pittenger ever would. He is an ineffectual state senator who would undoubtedly be seated on the far right side of the House chamber.
In Gaston County, there is a new toll road that is supposed to be built within the coming years. Conveniently, from what I understand, Pittenger owns many of the acres where it is to be built. Though I admit that this is mere speculation, I would not mind seeing who does own the land where the toll road is being built.
No harm in looking into it is there?
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
He also profited off of I-485
If you look into the owners of the land that is now a part of 485, you will find that Pittenger was the owner. He purchased the land before the public knew where the road was to be built. If I remember correctly, the Charlotte Observer ran a story some years ago about this.
Are you running
in 'o8? Won't be offended if you remain coy.
McCrory would be unbeatable in that race
But if Pittinger is the only serious Republican in that primary, we need a contested Democratic primary, and a strong, viable candidate with lots of disposable income to give Pittinger a run for his money in what would otherwise be an easy race.
I agree 100%
I don't want to see Pittenger win and McCrory would easily take Dem votes. I can't think of a Democrat right now who could hold all Dem votes and take huge numbers of Republican votes from McCrory. I also think he would tromp Pittenger.

well, Jennifer Roberts
would probably be out best chance to do that...but we've already had that discussion.
Larry Kissell is MY Congressman
Cannon
What's Patrick Cannon up to these days?
Probably avoiding rumors
and possibly avoiding the truth.
