Calling all BlueNCers! Today is the big "Immigration Town Hall Meeting" featuring Charlie Taylor and racism's favorite Congressman, Tom Tancredo. It's in Hendersonville from 5-7pm on the campus of Blue Ridge Community College (click here for a map). If you're in the Asheville area and would like to car pool, folks are meeting at the Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe Avenue at 3:30pm. Several groups are attending including One America and Operation Democracy.
Bring your cameras, your posters, your enthusiasm, your wit, and your heritage. See you there!

From an Operation Democracy email: "Congressman Charles Taylor has made a habit out of bad choices, but his choice to invite racism's favorite Representive, Tom Tancredo (R-CO), to speak on immigration is one of the worst. The Ku Klux Klan, Stormfront, and Vanguard have all endorsed Tancredo for President in 2008. Their support exemplifies the dark underbelly of the immigration debate as the Republicans would like to have it.
This event is a great opportunity to:
(1) Activite our Operation Democracy Team;
(2) Protest Racism;
(3) Speak our piece on Immigration Issues;
(4) Get some stellar video (bring your cameras!);
(5) Present differing views to the local media;
(6) Pose questions directly to Charles Taylor and Tom Tancredo;
(7) Have a great time participating in our democracy!"

Robert P. is right that the more outrageous costumes will make the media. I'll be dressed more formally, as I'm doing interviews outside the hall. However, when I'm not playing reporter I'll be carrying a sign that refers to Tancredo's KKK fans. Anyone participating ought to wear whatever they like, knowing that the media will be there to capture it.
Since this is not a Shuler rally, I wouldn't go around wearing a white sheet and carrying a Shuler sign. If you know what I mean.
This town hall meeting is an opportunity for all of you who've had enough of the covert racism in this immigration 'debate' to speak your piece.
