It's Time You Met Charles Taylor

You know your morbid curiosity has been getting the better of you. You've seen his vacant off-screen gaze in the television ads. You've seen the photos here and at ScruHoo. And Jeebus knows you've seen the 16-year old picture used in Taylor mailings (including this post's banner) and too many newspapers. Now's your chance to lay eyes, ears, and immigration questions on Congressman Charles Taylor. From an email:

"Please join me and our special guest, Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO), at an Immigration Town Hall Meeting taking place on Saturday, September 9th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Thomas Auditorium in the David W. Sink, Jr. Building, located at Blue Ridge Community College's main campus in Henderson County."

Yes, that Tom Tancredo. The one endorsed by the white supremacist groups such as Vanguard Group, the Ku Klux Klan, and Stormfront.

"I hope that you will be able to join us in Henderson County next Saturday, September 9th. If you have any questions about this event, please contact my Asheville office at (828) 251-1988."

Yes. Contact Taylor's office, and tell the phone-answerer you want to speak to Deborah Potter (Press Secretary) or someone in the Washington office. Ask them why Congressman Taylor is allying with racism's favorite Congressman, Tom Tancredo.

Then, let's show up for the event. Bring your questions. Here's my first query: "Congressman Taylor, Mr. Tancredo has been endorsed by multiple white-supremacy groups. Are you in favor of racism, or are you simply ignorant of Mr. Tancredo's racist supporters and their agenda?"

Bring your video cameras, your audio recorders, your digital cameras, and your wild enthusiasm. We're all invited, so the least we can do is show up and help make Congressman Taylor and his guest feel welcome.

i'll have my minidisc recorder (which mysteriously started working again!) and my homemade CHARLES TAYLOR DOESN'T CARE ABOUT BROWN PEOPLE! shirt. at this point, i don't want to confront taylor and tancredo as much as get thrown out of the town hall in front of several video cameras!

has anyone informed the operation democracy folks about this yet? they've gotta come by with their big red hands.

We should prepare ourselves

We should prepare ourselves for an onslaught of legislation designed to confuse, make dem candidates look bad, scare us and (though this one is doubtful)make pubs look good. Congress will be back in session starting today for 5 weeks, but may shorten that to 4 so they can go home and campaign. It probably won't get any more underhanded than this. No matter how good a bill sounds there will be something hidden in there that the dems absolutely will not vote for and the media will pick up on "dems do/don't support_____".

Just to share: When the sorry state of affairs is not getting media attention, I type a paragraph about it with links and asking others to write LTE's and spread the word. I go to political blogs and at just about any post I make a comment on that post and add "oh, and by the way, did you see what happened today?" then paste my paragraph. What I write will be read by thousands if I keep at it for about 2 hours. The campaign threads are very hot right now and hundreds of volunteers are reading their candidates posts, so that is the best way to spread the word on a serious issue. It is awesomely effective if there is a "petition" link, as most of the volunteers will go "vote" even if they do not have time to write their Congress person or LTE.

Isn't this internet powerful???

Now is the time for all fair dems to step up to the plate and show our Congress people that we have their backs. Catch the pubs at everything and don't let it go unnoticed!
