I've been talking about this for over a year
As I said when I announced my campaign, Fiscal Security is National Security, and China is a looming threat. I've repeated a thousand times that if the United States were a publicly traded corporation, our major stockholder would be China because they keep buying up all of the debt we've been spiraling into.
It comes as no surprise then, at least to me, that China is making more headlines today than criticism for press and human rights violations as they begin their one year countdown to the Beijing Olympic Games. Amid all the other bad news on Wall Street today, MarketWatch reminds us:
"The U.S. and China are engaging in mutually assured economic destruction..."
You may have already seen any one of numerous news items warning of China's latest threat to crash the US dollar by liquidating it's vast US Treasury holdings if Washington imposes trade sanctions to force a yuan revaluation.
Of course, I do agree with the economists indicating there's more than a bit of bluff in China's bluster. But, that's the thing about mutually assured destruction, it implies correctly that we are in a no win proposition with the Chinese, and I for one am not comfortable with their threats looming over our heads.
I've got meetings in the District today, so I can't stay to chat as I'd like, but I did want to make sure you all are watching this too. I may be cautious about this due to my training at Wake Forest in Economics, but that doesn't make this threat any less real.
Our children and grandchildren need you to help make this part of our National discussion.

Thanks Guys
Also at DailyKos.
I'm all over the District today, so say hi if you get the chance.

Yes, I just haven't taken the time to update it.
I've been trying to work with and convince the NHC Dems to utilize a blog for party communications and did a test site for them...which they're still pondering.

I want to hear this too.
Can someone email Larry and tell him that we won't support anyone who joins the Blue Dogs. Or the DLC actually, but mostly just the Blue Dogs.

From what I've been hearing,
the preparations for the Beijing Olympics are resulting in a human rights nightmare. The numbers are a little hinky, but it appears that somewhere near a million people have been/are being forcefully displaced from their homes to make room for all the facilities, playing fields, hotels, etc.
On a (somewhat) positive note, the government is also taking radical steps to clean up the air quality in and around the city so the poor athletes won't choke to death. This includes relocating a huge factory some 200 kilometers away from the city, and banning automobiles during the actual events.
sounds like we heard the same NPR report.
This could have been such an opportunity for China to become the new United States. They could have started two or three years ago when they heard about hosting the Olympics and put all their money and effort into making China open, fair, and clean (environmentally).
When the world came to see the Olympics, it could have changed their opinion of them forever. Instead, it is the Moscow Olympics all over again.

China holds 1.6 Trillion Dollars of U.S. Debt...
They have, consequently, bought the insurance which ensures Bush will not criticize them as they destroy the U.S. Market in some technical, textile and food industries.
A threat by China to sell our debt or redeem our debt treasury bills will now be enough to contain any open Bush Administration trade, or political actions against China. President and the republican Party have put us all in bed with China and Saudi Arabia.
Larry , you were right on.
P.S. I feel I will deemed a blue dog Democrat because of my pro-gun, free speech, anti-political correctness views, but make no mistake, this morning my blood pressure was 126/74 . All of the blood being measured was that of a True and lifetime Democrat. Although a bit more conservative than some, I will not join the Blue Dogs when I get to the House. They have gone over the edge.
