John Kerry was NOT at Appomattox!

Will somebody tell John Kerry to shut the hell up? Please leave the comedy to Robin Williams or Jon Stewart (my personal monkey).

Kerry’s remark “getting stuck in Iraq” was, I believe, a badly set-up joke directed at Bush, but that is water under the bridge. Now we need to push on, get over it and go back to the real message - staying off the road to Damascus, Baghdad, Tehran and Appomattox bypassing Bennett Place altogether.

Side Note: Kerry’s speech was, however, fertile ground for jokes. Here is today’s REJECTED strip. Not sure which is better - I am not really in love with either of them. But somehow, this too is Clinton's fault - I am sure of it!

I agree with StormBear.....

It was not the brightest thing to do. The National Commanders of the VFW & the American Legion have officially called for an apology from Senator John Kerry.
It was not the time nor the proper place for the remarks! The furor over Kerry's blunder is typical of politics as usual. Kerry’s remark “getting stuck in Iraq” was, I believe, a badly set-up joke directed at Bush, but that is water under the bridge. Now we need to push on, get over it and go back to the real message that no matter who is in charge, we, as Americans do not make the remarks Kerry made while we have Troops in the field!

Soldiers enlist in the military for many various reasons, some to futher their education. But I fail to see exactly how a proper education will keep one out of war. Many of us who are veterans enlisted in times of war and peace. And some still haven’t finished high school. We enlisted out of a sense of honor and pride and duty to our country, not for an education. The US Army has some of the highest standards set forth when it comes to enlistment. But, as for these off color jokes there is a time & place for things such as that and in front of troops is not one.

And I am quite sure that Mr. Kerry does not speak for each of our elected officials and canadates. Most I know, as well as myself firmly support our troops,
Our troops have done everything asked of them and more, and they have done it with honor and filled with a great sense of pride and accomplishment! It is basically like I told someone the other day, when you have troops in the field is not the time to allow them to see and hear degrading remarks or actions. Mr. Kerry should do well to remember this in the future.

And everyone, No matter what their politics are, or other matters they are involved in should be willing to stand firm and support our troops at all times. It is a simple but true fact, War does not recognize political parties or lines nor does it recognize ones level of education nor does it recognize skin color. If you don’t agree with the leadership, then don’t take it out on the troops because War is a constant, It recognizes none of the above when the first shot is fired.

Wars can be prevented just as surely as they can be provoked....
And we who fail to prevent them, must share the guilt for the dead.

Don't buy it Dan.

Senator Kerry, Vietnam War Vet, never did and never would say that about the troops in Iraq. What he did say, and what he said a few seconds before, was that George Bush is dumb as a box of rocks. That he was a poor student, a draft-dodger, and an idjit. And, that he got us stuck in Iraq.

John Kerry's sin is poor context. George Bush's sin is the death of hundreds of thousands of innocents and a few hundred uninnocent.

Don't buy their talking points, this whole thing about kerry is trumped up bullshit to divert people from the real message that Osama bin Laden walks free, planning the next attack against America and training the next "suiciders" in Iraq - his own personal terrorist recruiting center.

working at party headquarters....

...in a relatively small, relatively rural NC county with a Republican majority, my husband has been receiving calls all day, asking what the Democratic Party is going to do about John Kerry. Some have been in support, but many have been complaining about him. My husband - wise old hippie that he is - has responded like this:

I will be glad to pass your complaint on to our County Chair. But you know, the great thing about this country is, John Kerry is an American citizen. He has a right to say whatever he wants. So far, no one has taken that right away from him. He is not a representative of the Democratic Party, any more than you or I, so it sounds like your call should be directed to Senator Kerry's office. (dramatic pause) Have you voted yet? Did you know you can come up here to Carthage to vote any day through Saturday? Let me tell you about our candidates!

Hee.

If Kerry keeps up the heat

... it could turn this blunder into a plus... turn the conversation back to Iraq... If it is done right.

That is a lot of if's.

I think I am going to start downing Pepto and Vodka shooters any day now.
