Justice in America?
Commute his sentence. No jail time for Scooter Libby. Does anybody believe that anybody besides a member of the White House inner circle would receive this type of treatment? Isn't jail time a way of convincing people to come clean? Perhaps that is the reason the sentence was commuted!!!!

I am so disgusted

Steam coming out of my ears.
If there is no justice, then there is no law and the White House should be spray painted with graffiti immediately.

I've just faxed this letter to all NC members of Congress and
Pelosi and Reid. Not that it will do any good...
TO: North Carolina’s Members of Congress
SUBJECT President Bush’s commutation of sentence for Scooter Libby
Dear Members of the Senate and House,
Today was a dark day for America. President Bush proved to the American people, again, that we are no longer a country of laws and justice, but rather a nation ruled by fiat. George Bush has established a fiefdom where his loyal servants receive favors and protection while the rest of us suffer under his corrupt, self-serving, and unjust administration.
We demand that you immediately start and support impeachment proceedings against President Bush, Vice President Cheney, and Alberto Gonzales. If you’re not familiar with James Madison’s remarks during the Constitutional Congress regarding simultaneous suspension and impeachment of the President and Vice President, I suggest you have your staff do the research. It’s straightforward.
We’ve finally reached our limit....and so have millions of other Americans.
If you’re a Republican and you fail to support this action you will prove in the clearest possible way that you value party loyalty over the rule of law. If you’re a Democrat and fail to forcefully press for and support impeachment it will prove what most Democrats already feel...that Congressional Democrats have no spine and are essentially disorganized and incompetent.
Your sworn oath upon taking office was: I, Loyal Citizen of the Republic, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
It’s high time you took that oath seriously and acted. And, while you’re at it, will you please start enforcing our immigration laws and securing our borders. Now!

Most excellent letter...
But, I won't hold my breath waiting for our elected representatives to find some spine and stand up to Mr. 25%. The only thing left for Pres.
CheneyBush to do is declare martial law and suspend congress and the Constitution. They don't pay any attention to it anyway. At least all the power Hitler amassed was given to him 'legally' by the German legislature. Chimpy and The Dick simply took it and dared anyone to stop them. And surprise, surprise, nobody did...thanks...I hope everyone will call, write or fax.
Bush timed this to coincide withthe long weekend hoping it would blowover before Congress gets back in session.
By the way...to anyone who can suggest what the problem is...just about every damn time I try to make a post I'm told I'm not authorized, I lose my work,,,and have to sign in again...and again...
It's one of the reasons I don't post much. I get frustrated and quit.

Stan which browser are you using?
It seems that Firefox works well. I have started writing my longer posts in a word processer and pasting the comment because I just can't stand to write things twice.
Progressives are the true conservatives.
I use Internet Explorer...latest version.
I've done the word processor thing too,,,but sometimes I just want to make a comment and then...gone...and I throw up my hands and go away. this isn't fixable?

Get thee to Firefox now, Stan!
I promise it will work better.
OK...so how difficult is it to install and how will it affect
such things as...oh.say the Google toolbar...with spell check, auto fill etc?
SE NC Dems
Stan Bozarth
It comes with google
And seems to have spell check (although that might be my shiny new computer!) It's simple to install. And doesn't take much time at all. Firefox
F***K it just happened again
So after installing FF do I uninstall IE? I'm just looking for any tips I ought to have before doing something I might regret.
SE NC Dems
Stan Bozarth
No, you don't have to uninstall IE
Try firefox for a while. If you like it, you can use Internet Options in your Control Panel to change it to your default browser. Keep IE on your machine, it won't hurt anything.
Gotta love some lawn order
Fuck you, George Bush.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
YUP!
Fuck you George Bush and the elephant you rode in on!

explain this to my son
I really want to explain to my son, who I brought to the US as a baby from China, what happened to that promise I made him about living in a democracy. Since he came here in the heady, optimistic time of 1999, we have turned to a country that more closely resembles China - arrest without charge, detention without reason, Big Brother surveillance of the citizenry, and now - even the judicial system has a "two-tiered approach' to trial by jury.
Guess I will make this into a letter after I take son to swim practice. But where are the patriots who will listen to this and STAND UP? Rep. Price? Brad Miller? I like you guys, support you guys, but right now I cannot send ONE CENT to the Democratic Party until it shows me that it remembers the Constitution. (Larry Kissell still gets my donations, though.)
Chun, you can tell him
that even true Democracies are susceptible to the selfish manipulations of the powerful, but they are generally the least susceptible forms of government, as long as freedom of speech and government transparency are maintained...um, just tell him we're working on it and will get back to him soon.
we'll get back to you later...
That is pretty much what I have been saying for several years. He is only 8, but figured out a long time ago that someone who lies and gets away with it belongs in jail. I keep repeating stories of my Texas sheriff grandfather to him, how the old sheriff would try to help someone out if they were honest, but would show no mercy to a liar. Once in a courtroom, he told a witness "You can tell the truth a hundred times and it's always the same, but you can't tell a lie the same way twice."
Sigh.
Survey USA has an immediate poll out
From TPMCafe:
So, Shrub went against the wishes of the American people. Sure, only 40% of Republicans disagreed with him, but those all-important swing voters might just be less likely to stray right. According to the poll 56% of Independent/Unaffiliated voters felt the sentence should stand.
Bush just screwed every Republican who has stood by him.....Oh...and wait....that means Flipper, Liddy, Dick, Ginny, Sweeeeeet Sue and our dear friend Patty McLapdog.

Our Country is lost.
With a stroke of his pen, our country has died. It went out, not with a bang, kicking and screaming, but with a whimper and no struggle. The Bush cabal has silenced it's critics, intimidated the opposition, run roughshod over the Constitution and "rule of law", and generally pissed on anyone who opposed them. They have started wars of aggression against sovern nations, violated international law and the Geneva Conventions. They have used the US military as their own private army and as pawns in their fascist schemes. They truly are Evil Re-incarnate.

W's compassion for "excessive sentences"
...Not!
Was thinking of writing a post about this today, when I found someone had beaten me to it.
Here's just a sample, regarding a 1999 case for which the Pope contacted then Gov. W asking for a stay of execution for Karla Faye Tucker, the first woman condemned to death in Texas.
W. never met a harsh sentence he didn't like. He executed more prisoners than any other Governor in US history. And, when a man convicted of an identical charge of Perjury and Obstruction of Justice appealed for leniency, touting 25 years of military service and diminished physical condition, Bush's very own Supreme Court
Scooter Libby received his Get Out of Jail Free card, not because of any undue burden on his family or unfair application of the law. Libby is being rewarded for Taking One For The Team. He committed felony perjury to protect his
VicePresident, so W isabusing the powers of his office to set Scooter free.Larry Kissell is MY Congressman
And another example ...
observe the railroading of a Democrat in Alabama...
Bush's White House spits on our entire legal system, they use our Dept. of Justice for the miscarriage of Justice and the purging of voter rolls, they shame the memory of our Founders, for whom equal justice was a primary reason for instituting any sort of official government at all, and still they smile and wave at the camera as they walk by.
As Abraham Lincoln once said, Any man can handle adversity. If you want to test a man's character, give him power. The Rs in charge have been tested and found completely, utterly devoid of good character. They aren't fit to clean my cat's litter box.
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
I can't describe
the sense of silent, helpless rage at the brass-balled audacity of the repigs. The Malkintents are whining that Bush didn't go far enough. I beg their humblest fucking pardon. This is America and the majority of us won't stand for their lawlessness and utter lack of morality any longer.
Where is the outrage at the bullheaded, in-your-face criminality of the entire Republic party, who in lock-step with linked elbows defy any notion of decency, reciprocity and the rule of law?
I can't find much of it in Congress. The mood on the street registers from vile detestation of the state of affairs to complete, aghast helplessness. Occasionally, the 1-in-5'er accomplices register smug glee at yet-another knife being driven into the Constitution. How far our mighty and good nation has fallen. I suspect that Lady Liberty, weeping, has tossed her tablets and torch into the swallowing sea and gathered her gown about her as a funeral shroud. My tears of shame flow in quiet resignation with hers.
In any other time in American history, such criminality as blatantly displayed and even celebrated by the Republic party has been met with short ropes and sudden stops. Strange fruit would have lined the Mall, as well it may should. But revenge is no proper vehicle for reestablishing justice and the proper rule of law; one respectful of the Constitution that brought us this far without failure. It is certainly not the Constitution who failed us -- we, as a people, have failed it miserably to allow such a series of atrocities to go unchallenged.
Many of us saw this coming years ago, when PNAC published its manifesto, the treasonous Federalists vowed to subvert the Constitution, the Dobsonites were being trained to usurp American justice and a host of other hate-groups and separatists were planning the destruction of a true and just society. Until just lately, we were called alarmists or out-and-out looney: such a coup d'état could never happen in the United States.
Oh, but children, it did. It did.
Too little were our warnings heeded or even noted in passing. The Emperor, bare naked for all the world to see, strolled in to a ready-made hotbed for creating a corporate-owned, theocratic-deluded dictatorship. I watched as my ballot and thousands of its siblings were destroyed the morning after the 2000 election and wept because I knew on that day that America, as I had been born to love and defend, had died.
Now the Abramoff and corporate fatcat funded White House has taken yet one more piss on Her grave. They have stolen our tax dollars to line their pockets beyond even their own wildest greed. They have committed war crimes and atrocities in our name. They and their accomplices in the Justice Department have routinely caged and denied the basic right of franchise. They have illegally and routinely spied on innocent citizens. They have turned their backs on over 900 years of Western legal foundation in rescinding Habeas Corpus. They seek absolute rule over every aspect of our lives, our bodies (protecting blastulas at the expense of the living and making legislative moves to force chip implantation), our movements, our right of free association... this is not how Americans were meant to live.
It was unacceptable to the Founders and Framers and it is equally unacceptable to me. I will never, ever bend away from the Constitution I swore to uphold and defend.
We can no longer wait until the next election. At the rate that our government and rule of law are disintegrating, there will be nothing left to elect for, nor will any vote cast have any meaning whatsoever. Mother America, my family's home for ten generations, I mourn at your passing, seethe in anger at your assassins and regard the 1-in-5'er accomplices with suspicion and disdain as true enemies of the state.
How dare they question my patriotism, when I served to defend this nation against such and they sit on their chickenhawk asses and fling Leviticus at me. Fuck them all, I paid my way and earned my share of the American promise. It's time for the criminals and the 1-in-5'ers to pay theirs.
