We all know that Kissell is having a hard time explaining himself to his former supporters. We've all heard his lame excuse for voting against the Health Care Reform Bill, but now he has this:
Larry Kissell not only sounds like a Republican, now he advertises like one!

Nancy Shakir press release on Kissell mailer
Nancy Shakir for Congress
For Immediate Release: Sunday May 2, 2010
Nancy Shakir, Democratic Candidate for Congress, NC-08
calls on Rep. Watt, Rep. Miller, Rep. Etheridge and Rep. Price
to denounce Rep. Kissell’s mailer to NC Seniors
Rep. Kissell sends deceptive and misleading mailer to scare 8th District Seniors.
Fayetteville, NC – Democratic Candidate for Congress Nancy Shakir condemns Rep. Larry Kissell’s mailer to 8th District Seniors picturing a worried Senior and stating ” Larry Kissell doesn’t think you should be forced to choose between seeing a doctor and buying food”, suggesting that Seniors will lose their Medicare benefits as a result of the healthcare reform bill that was passed by a Democratic majority under the leadership of President Obama.
Nancy Shakir calls on Representatives Watt, Miller, Etheridge and Price to condemn this misguided mailer intended to scare Seniors into voting for Kissell, and set the record straight about the true impact of the healthcare reform bill.
According to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the Healthcare reform bill that passed Congress will benefit Seniors and their families in the 8th District by:
•improving Medicare by providing free preventive and wellness care, as well as coordinated care for the District’s 94,000 Medicare recipients
•providing Medicare Part D beneficiaries with a $250 rebate this year which begins the process of permanently closing the doughnut hole coverage gap; as well as providing a 50% discount on brand name drugs in 2011
•covering 79,000 uninsured residents
•allowing 58,000 young adults to stay on their parents plan
•providing millions of dollars in funding for new community health centers
One in five constituents in Rep. Kissell’s district is currently without health insurance. “It is distressing enough that Rep. Kissell broke his promise to support healthcare reform and voted against it, but his fear mongering tactics to scare Seniors have gone too far. I am running to represent the needs of the people of the 8th District. Given the honor to serve, I will do so with dignity, integrity and respect.” said Nancy Shakir.

Good one!
Have they called back?
Nancy seems to be on top of all of this
which in my book is a good thing. I hope once she is elected that she'll keep her eyes open and her responses as quick!
Yup
Ever heard the bell ring on a free buffet cruise?
The 70 year-olds will knock you down.
Is this an insult...or simply a comment in poor taste?
n't
Stan Bozarth
Either way, the guy is gone
Life's to short to put up with this shit.
Good !
n/t
Stan Bozarth
He'll be back
And I'll be ready.
Thanks James
Was that guy the Kissell camp? If so, he's turned into the same type of jerk that Kissell has become.
Not sure
but they all seem to have the same endearing qualities.
Surveyor and RANT are definitely the same whacked out person, either that or they're Siamese twins using the same keyboard.
Don't assholes like this have anything better to do?
It looks like the only thing that poor guy has to do
these days is be a nuisance. Both he and Larry were people that I thought were good Dems. I'm now looking much, much closer!
It seems to be another person
with the same attitude.
Another moderate winning voice gone by the James-side
Y'all are funny.
Life is too short to ensure irrelevance too James.
But I'm sure you're 4 percent right.
We may be funny
But you are one sick dude. All those sock-puppet identities floating around inside one twisted head?
Go find another play ground. You're not welcome here.
Sad and disgusting.
It cannot possibly help our Democratic efforts statewide this fall for one of our own candidates to be running this Republicanesque trash.
For once, I'd appreciate seeing the DNC or DCCC put in a word to one of our incumbents on an issue which a clear majority of Democrats agree is vital. In this case the useful word to Kissell would be cutitout.
Dan Besse
Even better!
Did they?
I doubt it--yet.
But, someone might let Kissell's campaign staff know that his fundraising (which has always been weak in-district but feasted on lots of national help two years ago) will continue to lag, so long as the tripe featured here is what he's spending it for.
Whomever comes out of our Senate primary is going to be an unequivocal backer of the health care reform effort. So long as Kissell is running counter-message in a key swing district, he doesn't need to get a dime from real Democrats.
Dan Besse
So when do they chime in then?
Wednesday?
As for Kissell's fundraising, you'd be mad if he had a gazillion dollars too. You're just mad.
It's understandable Lt. Gov.
And you are?
"Surveyor" is a pseudonym for whom? Your rhetoric sounds familiar.
Yes, I'm angry. I'm angry at a Democrat who was elected on a platform and pledges to work for the little guys and has failed them on one of the biggest social injustices of our era--access to health care. And who is now going so far as to campaign using a deceptive Republican theme.
Aren't you angry? And if not, why not? Do you agree with the deceptive Republican attack line being used in Kissell's mailer?
Dan Besse
Pathetic
What an asshole.
And he owes Nancy Pelosi what now?
A half trillion from Medicare and Hospice is a HALF TRILLION from Medicare and Hospice.
This asshole is the Democratic Ron Paul. You're just a party hack.
You're just a party hack?
You're not talking to me, are you?
someone should tell the democratic party
They'll have to spend the afternoon distancing themselves from James :)
Hack away, homie...
Would you please rewrite your post
in plain English Surveyor....I don't understand what you are trying to say. Thanks, Mo
Tell me this is a joke
Please.
sadly, no
Numerous Nancy supporters in the District got these pieces in the mail late last week.
Weird
Every time the name Kissell hits the ether here, the discussion gets weird.
For example, I'm not sure whether Surveyor intended "the Democratic Ron Paul" as an insult or a compliment.
And that's weird.
But it does seem to bring in posters who I never see otherwise.
Dan Besse
I banned one person formerly with Kissell's campaign
from participating here because he was behaving like a jerk. This seems like more of the same.
I'm sure he meant
it as a compliment, as in "Larry goes his own way and doesn't toe the party line", etc.
But what Surveyor fails to understand is that, while Ron Paul may have a small but devout group of followers, his actual accomplishments in Congress don't amount to diddly. He can't get hardly any of his (Republican) colleagues to sign on to his bills and nobody wants to surrender any of their minutes to allow him to rant. He's built himself a pointless little niche where he can tell tales of the magical breadfruit trees of Xanth while the real business of Congress goes on without him.
I hope to God Larry's not headed in that direction, but he's becoming more and more fond of nonsense, so who knows.
That is weird Dan Besse
Why shouldn't people that won start listening to you?
I.
Know!
Surveyor, you are a puzzle
you've been a member here longer than most but who knows who you are? Dan Besse on the other hand has always used his own name which says something about both of you. You may not like what Dan is saying but must you be so unpleasant?
Is Kissell protecting programs that shouldn't be protected?
To paraphrase the late great Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, “Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but no one is entitled to their own facts.”
One question that has not been asked or answered is, “are the programs Larry Kissell is bragging about defending, worth defending?”. The answer is, probably not. Democrats and Republicans don’t agree on much nowadays, but one thing they do agree on is that the home health services and hospice care programs in Medicare should be cut. In March 2009, MEDPAC (which is bi-partisan commission that advises Congress on Medicare) voted UNANIMOUSLY to suggest certain changes to HHS and Hospice Care. After extensive study MEDPAC concluded that these cost saving measures would not result in any decline in patient care. In fact the proposed cost saving measures where more likely to IMPROVE patient care than to hurt patient care! You can view the reports at:
http://www.medpac.gov/chapters/Mar09_Ch02A.pdf
http://www.medpac.gov/chapters/Mar09_Ch02E.pdf
http://www.medpac.gov/chapters/Mar09_Ch06.pdf
Among the findings of the reports:
1)The current system policies allows for conflicts of interests where some health care providers have a financial incentive to recommend hospice care. Correspondingly their have been in an increase in reports of some hospices engaging in “misleading marketing and admissions policies”.
2) Profit margins for HHS providers are generous, and this has led to a dramatic increase in the number of for profit HHA providers. As a result there are far more HHA providers than are needed to provide adequate service to the population.
3) Co-responding to the increase number of HHS providers has been a rise in the percentage of HHS patients for which hospital stays are required. This suggests that increased number of HHA may also results in a REDUCTION in the quality the HHS care that is provided patients!
After reviewing these reports, my question is, “who is Larry Kissell trying to protect?”. Is he trying to protect seniors who need good medical care, or is he trying to protect for profit health care providers who are increasing their profits while patient care deteriorates?
When Kissell says he “promised not to cut Medicare”, who did he make the promise to? Did he make it to seniors who are concerned about quality care, or did he make the promise to health care providers who fear that their profit margins will be cut?
One of the major reasons I am a democrat is because I see on a variety of issues (such as global warning) Democrats tend to examine all the details before forming a conclusion, where as Republicans are content to cherry pick facts and cite antecdotal cases that make good talking points.
I know the reports at the links I included are long and tedious, but if you bother to read them I think you find them unbiased and extensively well researched. If Larry Kissell, or any of his defenders, want to dispute these reports I wish they would counter with a report equally as detailed.
WTF
OMG, Kissell (Shaking my Head) WOW! MIght as well run as a RepubliCON!
Anthony D. Hall,
Fighting for Truth, Justice, Freedom and the American Way!
Received a robo call from "Norma" today
telling me how Larry had saved me.
All I could think when I received the flyer was OMG. It looks like it was done by Carter Wrenn. For those of you who don't go back that far...think Jesse Helms. Only one thing scares me more...Tim D'Annuzio.
