Larry Kissell needs 330. We need 443.

A week ago, I became the acting president of the Mecklenburg County Young Democrats, and I'm running to keep my post when we have our elections meeting on May 6 (3:30-5:30 at the Independence Library Branch). And all of that seemed well and good until our new party chair, David Erdman, told me that when he was the president of the MCYD (back in 1980), he had 442 dues paying members (including a certain Arkansas Governor). I was blown away, since all of the MCYD incarnations I've known were much smaller. Still, I want to beat that number, even though our official membership rolls currently show 3 dues-paying members.

I know that I'm setting a pretty high goal, but don't worry - we're going to have that number up to at least 20-40 after the May 6 meeting. That's going to get us 1/11th of the way there, and with the great parties and speakers we're going to host, I'm sure that number will grow steadily. But what else do you think we can do to grow one of your Young Dems chapters? Who should we invite to speak to our membership? Would you be interested in joining as a "young at heart" member if it got you discounted tickets to special events? Whether or not you live in the GREAT STATE of MECKLENBURG, what perks would get you to join the YDs?

Finally - I have to ask - would you be interested in joining?
