This is Art Pope's doing, but it'll come back around to bite him on the ass. More and more businesses will be looking at NC and saying, "WTF?" And before you know it, we'll be a sad shadow of South Carolina, which is arguably the must screwed up state in the nation.
No wait, that'll be GOOD for Mr. Pope. His slumlord retail empire depends on a permanent underclass of poor people who have to buy crap from his Dollar stores.
It all makes sense.

As a long-time South Carolina resident (20+ years)...
Having lived in both Carolinas for long periods of time, I can honestly say North Carolina will never be able to reach the idiocy-level of South Carolina, even though the crazy train runs squarely though NC too. I used to think between Strom Thurmond and later Jim DeMint that it couldn't get any worse, but NC is doing a great job of catching up -- especially recently with the Three Witches of NC: Ellmers, Foxx and Myrick -- and of course McHenry.
South Carolina's legislators are just backwards. North Carolina's seem to be seriously deranged. And that's not even including the local morons like Bill James in Charlotte and Brown in Kernersville and the gaggle of segregationists on the Wake School Board or the Regressives all over the state trying to kill medical insurance for county workers because they oppose reproductive freedoms.
It's hard to be a Progressive in the South, no doubt
