Martinez strokes Fetzer

Ricky, why don't you two just get a room.

As GOP chair, he's built a considerable network that could come in handy if he wants to run for statewide office - governor, for example. Former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory acts like he wants another run at the mansion, but against Fetzer the coveted conservative mantle a GOP nominee must wear would go to the former Raleigh mayor.

Congress is another option. Given that North Carolina might pick up another House seat, Fetzer could opt to run in a newly created district and avoid a costly, uphill battle against an incumbent. And since Republicans are destined to have a big say on how districts are drawn, the process could be Fetzer's road map to Washington.

That's more nauseating than driving past one of those big pig farms with the windows open...

His gayness

I can see a gay politician getting elected in Raleigh, but statewide? That's hard to imagine.

Maybe a vicious Primary battle

between Fetzer and McCrory would be a good thing. I wonder which one Art Pope would get behind?

McCrory

I hear a persistent rumor that Pope played a role in outing Fetzer. I don't have any knowledge of that, but it sounds entirely possible.

That said, "married life" had made Tommy old and puffy. He looks like crap, and he will be associated with the upcoming Republican meltdown in Raleigh. McCrory's clean, so to speak, and besides, Duke Energy will single-handedly fund his campaign. They already are.

no way it will be McCrory

The folks who follow him, despise McCrory. They consider Pat too liberal, many of even think Pat should be a Democrat. I do not know if it will be Fetzer, but some one will against Pat in the primary from the right, Pat will have a difficult time remaking himself as a conservative, and those folks will never fall for it.

McCrory and Romney have a

McCrory and Romney have a good shot at winning their respective primaries because so many Republicans will be running to the right that the moderates will have a shot. And they'll both have the most money.

McCrory may be able to win

The Primary but I can not see Pope backing him, Pat is the kind of Republican Pope has been trying to run out of the party, If it come down to McCrory against a convservative one on one I think Pat will lose.

No, no, no

You guys are getting this wrong.

This is not McCrory v. Fetzer. This is Duke Energy vs. whomever Fetzer can recruit to back his candidacy. Progress Energy? Lowe's? Adam and Eve?

It's sort of like NASCAR, but the decals will be invisible.

Truth told, Pope doesn't care about the governorship. In NC, it's all about the General Assembly first, and then the Supreme Court. I see the latter as Pope's next buying spree.

There's truth to this - the

There's truth to this - the Governor has a weak veto, and no say in redistricting. Hopefully, Perdue will be a firewall to disastrous cuts.
