McHenry the voice of reason? Oh boy.
You know the GOP has Jumped the Shark when House member and Resident WingNut Patrick McHenry is seen as a voice of reason among his peers. There is a really funny post on TPM about how McHenry, who is on the Census committee in the House, is scrambling to convince some of his nuttier brethren to come down from the ledge they are on in regards to the Census.
Reports have been surfacing for a few days and weeks now that many, many fringe conservatives/Teabaggers are convinced (no doubt with the help of nutjobs like Michelle Bachmann) that the Census is not only a Commie Plot to identify "true American patriots" so they can be rounded up and shipped to the FEMA re-education camps, but that it is also Unconstitutional, even though it is one of the few things specifically called for in the Constitution.

McHenry is afraid, as are many other Righties, that if enough Wingnuts fail to fill out the census, then the next redistribution of representation could box them out so he suddenly finds himself on the same side with progressives trying to assure these dolts that the Census is just that -- a CENSUS. That there are no black helicopters waiting to wisk you away in the middle of the night and that filling out the form's 10 questions is a GOOD THING.
Politics make for strange bedfellows for sure. Personally, I would love it if the WingNuts all refused to identify themselves in the Census, but one can only dream.
Yikes.
