Miller: I'm thinking about it

From Indy Week, some encouraging words from Brad Miller.

In addition to the calls and e-mails I’ve received without asking, I’ve made a few calls to people who have supported me in the past. I am encouraged that if I do decide to run, I would begin with a credible base and would be able to put together a campaign quickly.”

That would be one hell of a showdown

Myers Park "Mitt" McCrory versus a proven populist with deep national support.

:))

Oh goodness.

My giddy political nerd is threatening to jump out in mixed company. Discipline. Must practice discipline.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

deep national support does do

deep national support does do much good in a Statewide run. Miller should keep his powder dry....build an organization and run agains Hagan in the 14 primary or wait for Burr. I do not think he will win a primary much less a general against McCrory.

Might be good for a whole bunch of money

You might be right, but one never knows.

And at least with me, everyone can judge my miserable record of being right about candidates. When your name is anonymous, motives are always suspect.

Strengths

He could excite the progressive side of the party that is in desperate need of a reason to show up and vote, rather than protest the pick.

I think his experience and strength as a community college advocate gives him appeal to the independents.

He has connections to a lot of the state. His district connects to both the triangle and triad, and his home town connections to Fayetteville give him a large stretch of well-populated area to build upon.

His distance from the Governor's mansion could be a strength as well. More distance from Easley corruption perception. No doubt Pat's people have been gearing up for a campaign against the actions of the Governors mansion.

He has better favorability among dems than either of the declared candidates according to PPP.

The more people who get into this race, the better our chances are for defeating the amendment, especially if a progressive candidate is a part of that campaign. Likewise, a ton of people will turn out for the amendment, and they're more likely to vote for someone viewed as an ally.

What Jake said. And ...

Miller's relentless, though often lonely, efforts to bring some accountability into the out-of-control financial sector and his advocacy for breaking up the big banks is something many Indys will very much approve of. That is a Federal issue, but it tells you a whole lot about how he thinks and where his loyalties lie -- and where they DON'T lie.
