Millions stolen from North Carolina workers

The Republican vision for North Carolina was on full display this week in a report by the NC Justice Center that Tarheel employers screwed their workers out of millions of dollars, just because they could. These are the same employers that the GOTP Wrecking Crew will "hire" to take over our roads, hospitals, schools, parks, water systems, rivers, and more. Because private enterprise is oh-so trustworthy.

I know some former co-workers who might find this information very interesting, and infuriating. The industry I work in is notorious for wage theft in a myriad of ways, to the point that you go in knowing you're going to get burned and looking for ways to "get what's yours' without getting caught. This just fuels the belief of some employers that all employees are dirty rotten thieves out to screw them, thus justifying their own shitty behavior. I witnesses this cycle more times than I care to recount, from the bottom and from the middle manager's stand point.

It's an ugly systemic problem that will not be solved until we find the will to fund adequate oversight and regulatory enforcement. Government is good, it's just never been given a fair chance to do its job. Not in my lifetime at least.
