Moore County West End Precinct Meeting

This was my first precinct meeting, and as predicted, I was nominated and elected.

Before I go into that, let me start at the knock on the door where I was met by the current precinct chair, Mac Clark. We were at Watts Auman's house because that's where they always meet. Mac is a good man, but started our conversation with an admission that our precinct is not too active. He takes responsibility; he's poured all his spare time into the cub scouts. As he says, "Basically I'm chair because I didn't step back when everyone
else did."

Just about the time I asked if we would have enough for a quorum, Ken McRae showed up. There was a little discussion about whether or not it was necessary for one, so Ken got on the phone to make sure that Roy and Ruth McRae were coming. In the end, Ed Watts and Kim Auman made it seven, WooHoo we had enough!

Our only business was to elect a new chair, Ed Watts, vice chair, me, Ruth McRae will continue being the Secretary/Treasurer and then the county delegates. Yep, I was elected, but to be honest, I raised my hand.

So now the work begins. The general consensus was that the reason the Democratic Party and some of the precincts aren't active is because Moore County generally elects Republican, it's just discouraging and too many have
given up. To me, it's a new age. Dems have more of a chance now and it's time to breathe life back into the party here.

I am confident that this can be done because I am a member of the BlueNC community. I am better informed and have been encouraged by the activists that make up that community.

I am taking my first baby steps because I know that there is a group of people that I can reach out to for direction and believe me, I'll be reaching out. I am also proud to be in a group of people here that are "Just showing up and being elected to serve".

A BIG thank you to The Southern Dem

for posting this for me. I ended up coming home, think I've got a stomach virus. And thank you BlueNCers for being a community that encourages each of us to "be the change we wish to see"!

Without the encouragement from You, Lcloud and BlueNC

I would not have gone. They wanted to make me chair, because I was more informed than they were on things like how many they need for a quorum. Knowledge IS power!

That's great!

Good for you, Mo.

People need to realize it's not about what has been done (or not done) before...it's about what we're going to do right now that matters most.

The more precincts we can get organized, the better chance we have to get good Democrats elected. Look out, Moore County!

BlueNC rocks at precinct organization

Robert - here's your(and Jerry's) 100 counties at work.

We have Nan, Working For Change, Internazionale, Momoaizo, Sam Spencer, Robert and I all organizing/participating in our precincts now. Is lcloud? What about Stan? Who else. I'm sure I'm leaving someone out.

NCDem Amy, too

Look out NC Democrats - BlueNC is hijacking the party!

I don't have any fancy title, but I'm planning a very fun party in May as well as a "notebook campaign", a trip as a delegate to the county convention, and lots of fantastic political theater and blogging...

Holy Crud....How did I forget you?

I'm so sorry. I've had 7 hours sleep in the past two days. Can I claim that as an excuse?

Yes, you can. SD.

And yep, our precinct meeting was last night.

I was vice-chair before. Now I'm chair. I wasn't doing much with that vice-chair thing before, though. I was so green and all worried about upsetting apple carts and such. No chance mo will let that hold her back!! ;) I knew ZIP about local politics or precinct stuff at first. In the last two years, that has changed a little. We hope to just get outside soon and start knocking on doors to introduce ourselves to registered Democrats. We have a semi-lucid plan to start with the most recent D voters registered in the precinct and work our way backwards. Should be interesting. :)

I have said it before and will probably say it again and again

I am so lucky/blessed to have found BlueNC....a hot bed of activism and activist outreach!

Way to go, Momo!

Well done. I think there were a lot of new faces at precinct meetings this time around.

We're becoming the party we want to see.

Yay, momo!

Go get 'em! ;)

Mo on the Exec committee! Woman, it will be awesome.

We had our precinct meeting last night, too. I didn't take a picture, but for the first time in a long time, we didn't have to call anyone or go pick anyone up to reach a quorum - we made it just by the volunteers who showed up all on their own. My husband was elected Chair. I won't post the vice-chair's name here until I'm sure she won't mind. I'm secretary/treasurer. We met at the Vass Public Library, and the only flag we had was in the small Veteran's museum. It was about 4 inches tall. No matter. It was a good group, excited about the convention, and thrilled that we actually had a quorum without having to beg for it. We will be meeting monthly to plan - which is a first for this precinct.

Wow!

That's quite a commitment. Congrats to gcloud. I'm sure he'll light a fire under the precinct.

I'm so excited at the number of precinct officers/organizers/members here at BlueNC. We know that just spouting off won't win elections.
