Most blatant anti-voting bill yet:

There's been yet another attempt to suppress voter turnout in North Carolina, including limiting civic participation from our youth. Senate Bill 657 is sponsored by three freshmen GOP Senators from Western NC (Sen. Warren Daniel, Sen. Jim Davis, and Sen. Ralph Hise). This bill would:

** Ban Sunday or “Souls to the Polls” voting in North Carolina

** Eliminate early voter registration for 16-17 year olds.

** Limit the early voting period to 7-9 days.

** Limit the available day time and hours of early voting locations.

Here’s a link to the full text of the bill:

This is the most blatant attempt yet to suppress the vote of non-far right voters in NC. I'll be interested in hearing their justification as to why it is on our state's best interests to block young voters from fulfilling their civic duty or to make it harder for working people to vote.

If you live in the districts of the bill's sponsors, please spread the word in your communities about what these freshman senators are doing and flood their offices with your displeasure..... if you live in other districts, tell your state senators to stop this bill in its tracks!

Democracy North Carolina will, of course be fighting the bill and we’ll let you know what you can do to help. Visit http://www.democracy-nc.org if you want to sign up for our alerts, etc.

Absentee voting not getting touched

If you notice, all of the voter suppression policies introduced by Repubs in the state lege don't touch absentee voting. Why? I more than suspect that it's because NCGOP is very good at running absentee programs. They have it down to a science and whoop Dems in absentee voting.

None of these bills are based on principle. These bills are based on suppressing segments of the electorate that are unfavorable to the GOP.

wanna know why they want easier Absentee By Mail voting?

http://www.thenation.com/article/160062/big-brothers-thought-control-koch

It starts out:

On the eve of the November midterm elections, Koch Industries sent an urgent letter to most of its 50,000 employees advising them on whom to vote for and warning them about the dire consequences to their families, their jobs and their country should they choose to vote otherwise.

And now you know why I and many other people object to the sections of the VoterID bill that make it so easy to obtain an absentee by mail ballot and makes it so hard to vote in person with a secret ballot.

Imagine actually having a job with benefits. In preparation for your year-end evaluation, your employer gives you a post card to fill out - it's a request for an Absentee By mail ballot. You bring it to your evaluation and your employer sees how you fill it out. If you vote the way they want you to, you get a good evaluation. If you don't, you get a bad one - that's used to eventually fire you for cause, Then you don't get unemployment.
