Must read from Bob Geary at Indy Week and Rose Hoban at NC Health News
We've seen a number of articles and opinion pieces covering the dire economic consequences of the Pope administration, and even more chronicling the baffling pattern of lies and half-truths told by DAG McCrory. But none come close to matching these articles by Bob Geary and Rose Hoban in terms of depth and breadth of gory detail. It's worth bookmarking both.
An excerpt from Geary on unemployment benefits:
I turn now to the economic damage these lies, and the policies they misrepresent, are doing to North Carolina. The cuts to unemployment took effect July 1, slashing the amount and duration of aid to North Carolinians who lose their jobs. The fact that these cuts disqualified the long-term unemployed in our state from collecting extended benefits means that, for the last six months of 2013, the North Carolina economy will forgo $600 million in federal aid we should've had.
From Hoban regarding the administration's incredible Medicaid cover-up:
Soon after taking control in Raleigh in early 2013, people hired by Gov. Pat McCrory to run the Department of Health and Human Services made strategic edits to the departmental response to State Auditor Beth Wood’s audit of the North Carolina Medicaid program.
Documents obtained by North Carolina Health News through a public records request show that in January, incoming Sec. Aldona Wos and Medicaid head Carol Steckel eliminated detailed explanations of alleged high administrative costs, management problems and budget overruns in past years.
Art Pope is doing real damage in our state. Through his lying and budgetary incompetence, he's sacrificing the health and safety of North Carolina citizens in order to further his extremist agenda.
