My First Precinct Meeting, Take Two

Well, we're at it again over here in Forsyth, scrambling to "get our five" for an organizational meeting. We try again tonight, and this time my wife is coming so we have a better shot.

I've been reflecting on this in the intervening two weeks since we first tried, unsuccessfully, to get a proper quorum here in my little part of Forsyth. While some might be discouraged with the paucity of the flock, I am taking heart.

Earlier in my career, I was in management. Thinking back to that time, I always thrived on taking over small groups that were underperforming, rather than being the caretaker of some well-oiled machine. So, here I am in my personal life, approaching something I am passionate about, progressive politics, and I'm faced with the same opportunity.

Take heart, Democrats. It starts with you. Get excited, even if there's only a couple of folks to share your excitement with right now.

Go get 'em!

The little engine that kicked ass. You're amazing!

Do you have a neighbor

in your precinct? Do those who showed up last time (or you) have kids who are over 18?

My precinct

My precinct covers parts of East Winston and rural Forsyth County/Walkertown area. The part where I live is deeply-rooted in fundamentalism and GOPism. It's basically meand my wife, a couple of younger white middle-class libs stuck out here in the county, and some kindly black folks from EAst Winston.
I really feel for our outgoing precinct chair---he's a really good guy, and he's disappointed that the same folks who take the party's money on election day as judges have failed to show up for the organizational meetings. On his cue, my first step as chair will be to disqualify judges who fail to show up for an hour-long precinct meeting once a year. I'm in sales, and that's an easy one for me to sell.

A more direct reply

All of my neighbors are redneck Republicans/redneck apathetics. No registered Dems between me and East Winston.

fair enough

Another idea would be for you to contact the old precinct chair, and see if you could get a list of say 10-20 people to call and try and to show up.
(im just throwing ideas out so that you can become chair)

I appreciate the ideas

I think his (the outgoing chair's) idea is to get five there and back me to be the new chair (me + my wife + him voting for me--not to mention the lady that came last time, who wanted to help lead the precinct, but not be THE leader).

So, I'll be getting that position by default this evening, and I can get going with re-energizing the precinct forthwith.

sounds like a good idea

Also sounds like you have 3-4, I hope you get that last one.

Me, too

We each pledged to bring one with us, so hopefully we'll have six.

Good Luck Inter...

Here is the link to the Forsythe Board of Elections....call them they can get you a list...today...of all dems in your precinct. They may even have that available online. (hat tip to SD)

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.
