My latest endorsement from the anti-gay movement

People like Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality are full-time, "professionals" who spend day and night doing "research" on The Homosexual Agenda, funded by misguided followers and wingnut welfare. Below the fold, a taste of what I deal with on a regular basis. I try to maintain a sense of humor about it, but you'll see at the end that it's not just about sloughing off some insults here and there.

Jeebus! It must be Americans for Truth Against Homosexuality's fundraising quarter as we've hit the jackpot again, along with Box Turtle Bulletin. It's completely over the top batsh*t insane beauteous:

The Left knows hate

In their continuing effort to steal the legacy of the real civil rights movement, homosexual activists and their allies posit an analogy between racism and “homophobia” — their smear term of choice to denigrate traditionalists. It is a deeply flawed comparison: what does unchangeable skin color and ethnicity have to do with aberrant, immoral and changeable sexual behavior?

...Moreover, the homosexualists are in the uncomfortable position of making actual descendants of slaves — like Pastor Ken Hutcherson of Antioch Bible Church and ex-lesbian Janet Boynes... — the target of their opprobrium. Men and women of color (like Crystal Dixon, a Black woman who recently was suspended from the University of Toledo after publicly making points similar to these) are mere “religious anti-gay bigots,” according to the homo-fundamentalists’ warped formulations.

Being lectured on intolerance by anti-Christian bigots like Tim Kincaid and Barney Frank — or run-of-the-mill leftist hate sites like Daily Kos — is like the USA being scolded for human rights violations by North Korea. If you think I jest, check out the hate-filled comments and vile anti-Christian insults that flow liberally on lesbian Pam Spaulding’s blog (try doing a search on “Jeebus” — a substitute for “Jesus” that secular snobs use to mock Christians).

Pam’s and Tim’s sites are further proof that nobody hates like the Left. And few on the Left hate like the homosexual activists (with radical pro-abortion-on-demand feminists a close second).

Past endorsements:

A "vicious anti-Christian lesbian activist."
(Concerned Women for America's radio show [9:15], 1/25/07)

"A nutty lesbian blogger."
(MassResistance radio show [16:25], 2/3/07)

While this is all amusing, last year LaBarbera led a nationwide (unsuccessful) email and calling campaign to have me fired from my day job, which is completely unrelated to my work on the Blend. I am employed by a private university with an anti-discrimination policy -- and naturally understands the First Amendment -- so that derailed the effort, but what if I worked for a private company (or the state of NC for that matter) with a homophobic boss? I could easily have been canned for simply being out of the closet, never mind actively fighting bigots like LaBarbara from spreading disinformation and bigotry over the intertubes.

Holy mackerel

Damn, Pam.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with crap like this. I suspect that whatever god these sad people believe in will find them lacking when it comes to getting their ticket punched to heaven.

Odd

I don't know how you put up with the nonsense, but I'm glad you do.

You know, I always thought "Jeebus" was a respectful substitute for "Jesus." It's the same as Geez or Gee. I was taught that it's disrespectful to say "God" or "Jesus" as an exclamatory or casual expression, so whenever I see "Jeebus" or "geez" or some other variation, I assume that the person is being respectful of those for whom the name is sacred.

But folks are crazy. At least they didn't draw little red horns on your picture.

I am so proud of you, Pam

Hiding all that hate from the rest of us is quite an accomplishment. You see, I've been around you several times and I've been reading you for a couple of years and hate is the last word I would use to label you. Peter must have a gift from Goddess to be able to see through your calm, caring compassionate demeanor to see the aura of hate.....that quite frankly I'm sure only he can see.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.

so NOW they are concerned about descendants of slaves?

You know Pam, I am just a middleaged white lady from Texas but it seems to me that the people crying about the gays taking aim at those poor, real-life descendants of slaves were just a short time back doing their level best to keep same descendants from their pursuit of happiness in ways like voting, getting paid fairly, living where they wanted, etc.

Finding someone to attack is a fundraising technique, they might as well stamp it on all their indignant little screeds.

Thanks for your unfortunate work as part-time lightening rod.

Thanks for what you do for all of us, Pam.

Anything I can ever do for you, I will.

As a Conservative...

..this:

While this is all amusing, last year LaBarbera led a nationwide (unsuccessful) email and calling campaign to have me fired from my day job, which is completely unrelated to my work on the Blend.

Was a low blow and unacceptable.

Keep in mind: this treatment isn't just reserved for people on the Left.

Do I understand correctly?

You are equating a customer of prostitutes to Pam? You are claiming this man, who committed criminal acts is a victim?

If you took the time to read the blog post...

...you'll notice this:While I’m one of the easiest people to get a hold of in the County, I did not receive one e-mail, phone call, text message, letter, etc. from any of Coy’s fans confronting me. However, there were calls to my employer and my church - much to the bemusement of both

My employer and church were called because I confronted Coy (the "customer of prostitutes") and his little gang.

The point is that there are certain people that will make it difficult if you cross them - regardless of ideology.

Ah, my apologies

I should have read further down.

Of course, I also note that this is a case of conservatives eating their own, not liberals attacking a conservative.

Your point that it does happen to conservatives is valid, but Pam's point is also that it is a favorite tactic of the Right.

the crazies and hypocrites

It's amazing how they have so much time on their hands to bleat away about such matters, rather than showing charity toward those in need, for instance. LaBarbera is a 24/7 obsessive operation. He has cruised gone undercover to investigate fetish events like International Mr. Leather in Chicago every year to bring updates on the goings-on to his readers.

See "International Mr. Leather coming up - is The Peter ready?" I kid you not. Perhaps he can take Coy on a field trip.

Meanwhile, I'm engaging in perversity by doing things like paying bills, yard work, grocery shopping and bathing the dog.

What is amusing to me

is their sudden love and concern for the Civil Rights Movement.

Note to the Christian Right: You hate black people as much as you hate gay people, remember?

May I remind you that as recently as 1995, you still endorsed slavery?

Note to the Christian Right?

You do know that many churches were leaders in the abolitionist movement in the mid-19th century, right? I'd appreciate if you didn't make that statement. I understand that the majority of racists in more recent times have been Southern Christians, but to generalize all right-wing Christians like that is ridiculous.

On the main issue, I really feel sorry for anybody who has to put up with that kind of verbal abuse for no solid reason.

Churches

were leaders in the abolitionist movement and participated quite a bit in the civil rights movement.

I think it might also be inaccurate to say that the majority of racists in more recent times have been southern Christians. That may be the stereotype, but I doubt that this concept is actually born out in real numbers. Racist movements in recent times have been strongest in the northwest.

Of course, there is a movement called "Christian Identity," (I think that's the name of it) which is one of the most virulent white supremacist groups you can encounter online. They're spread out everywhere, though, not centered in the South.

Please don't confuse the issue with the facts

These facts that you offer make that more difficult for him to do that to the knuckle-dragging, compound-building, illiterate fundies that have never done anything for anyone.

Why do you insist on taking that away from him?

Cabarruscheapseats.com: Reasoned Discussion of Cabarrus County, NC News & Politics

I won't speak for Kosh,

but I believe his comment was directed at groups like AFTAH and others, as opposed to all of the Christian Right.

As far as this VanAsdlen fellow, I'm having a little trouble picturing a 6'4" 200 lb. athlete saying, "Golly gee whillickers, those two guys are holding hands!"

Riiiight.

The facts are the facts

I cited the Southern Baptists article, but the FACTS are that right-wing (conservative) Christians mostly endorse racists, sexist, anti-gay policies. Anyone who claims otherwise is deluded.

I did not claim that such views were unique to Southern Christian conservatives, it isn't. White Supremacist Christians abound in places like Montana, Iowa, Colorado and Oregon, quite far removed from the South.

Yes, there may in fact be a pro-gay, pro-racial equality, pro-feminist Christian conservative, and I wouldn't mind meeting him or her.

HA!

I'd like to meet him or her, too!

I do know there are many pro-racial equality Christian conservatives, but they're not nearly as loud as the anti-everythings.

And while it is all well and good

for those folk to be pro-gay, pro-feminist and anti-racist, it really doesn't mean anything if they refuse to take on their less enlightened brethren.

Could you give me a list

of Right-wing Christian groups in favor of the Civil Rights Movement?

Progressive Christians DID, in fact, support abolition. Hell, the Republican party did to, before they switched places with the Democrats around the 50's and 60's (over civil rights as I recall) and became the racist standard bearer.

Conservative Christians, such as the Southern Baptists, not only condoned slavery, they claimed it Biblically justified.

The hallmark of the Right-wing, whether Christian or not, is racism, sexism, and jingoism. While I am sure that right-wing Christians exist, they are, by far, the minority.

The discussion gets a little confusing

because the northern and southern churches that exist today evolved after the civil war. It is sickeningly true that many who called themselves Christian claimed Biblical justification for slavery, but that had more to do with their being Southern (i.e., being tied culturally and economically to the system of slavery) than Christian. I mean, doesn't it seem like kind of a strange coincidence that the churches were split right 'bout long the Mason-Dixon line? The brainpower, intellect or moral fiber wasn't qualitatively different by some weird quirk of the climate. What accounted for the difference of perspective in the North v. South was that human beings tend to be selfish and self-interested critters and we tend to conform our beliefs to what we need or think we need rather than the other way around.

Anyway, I understand your lumping rightwingers and conservative Christians together with bigots, but I've known too many conservative Christians who aren't sexist or racist to be comfortable with the generalization.

The Bible, and other religious texts,

have been used to justify all kinds of evil things, even though those texts are not in and of themselves evil. It defies reason that people who follow someone who said "Suffer the little children to come unto me and deny them not" could turn around and say "God hates fags".

God - in many forms - has been blamed for a lot of man's hatreds and frailties. Quite absurd.

People are nuts

And will use whatever is at hand to justify emotional or visceral reactions. The Bible has certainly been used and will continue to be used to serve despicable purposes.

Wicked!

I have always thought you were wicked. You evil, evil, woman!
(give 'em hell, girl!)

Wicked indeed.

And here I thought for a moment that I was the only one enjoying the irony of a flashing red "wicked" superimposed over a photo of the smiling Pam.

Seriously, Pam, my sympathies to you over the crazy-right attack campaign against you. Just remember that they wouldn't bother to mess with you unless they were afraid that you were having an impact.

You have to wonder why a peon like me gets these crazies and wingnuts so riled up. Like I have any real political power -- I can't even get candidates to answer polite questions (present company excepted, of course)

As I explained to another blogger

who was about to pack it in because he didn't feel anyone was listening and thus he was not making a difference (I've had a bout of that myself lately):

The mere fact that we can and do say say the things we do offends them. They want to shut us up, to make us stop.

That is all the more reason to speak up.

In the Gay rights Vs Anti Gay folks hate is plentyful

from both sides, as I am sure many of us have seen or experienced.

But in your case Pam, somehow you have managed to take the higher ground and stay there. I admire that.

I am a Christian and have never made any bones about it, and it is, to a great degree, my Christianity which has encouraged me to not try and remove a splinter from my brothers eye while there is a log in my own.

My faith has encouraged me to not judge, least I be judged in the same way I have judged others.

Jesus said to love thy neighbor even as you love yourself, and that this was the "greatest" of all the commandments of God. Jesus preached forgivness, love , understanding and giving. When it came to The "Law" of the Old Testament, he used the occasion of a woman about to be stoned to death according to the "Law" as it was written. She had been caught in an adulterous act. According to the Law of Moses she was to be stoned to death. Jesus stood there amoung them and said "He who is without sin, cast the first stone". And he began to write on the ground. They all left that place. (Was he writing their sin down?)
Jesus did not come to condem the world but to save it.......from itself.

For those who do not know me. ... No..I am not gay. Please do not put me in the same crowd with the nuts who attack you Pam. I know that you don't.

I most certianally do not want anyone standing in judgement on my life... I therefore find strength in the fact that Jesus endorsed not judging others..... In my life (55 years) I have become convinced of two things.

First: There is a God ...... Second: I am not God

Jesus was clear in his destain for the Organized religous leaders of the time. Those types still exist and Jesus still hold them in destain. Clean on the outside, filthy on the inside.

Pam is my friend. As a Christian, I know it is okay with God, because God loves Pam.

Marshall Adame
2014 U.S. Congress Candidate NC-03

thank you, Marshall

It pains me to see so many misguided, troubled, dangerous and angry people like Peter LaBarbera claiming themselves as Christian (it's so horrible that I refer to his ilk as "Christians"). I find the piousness and persecution of the "other" is often paired with hypocrisy of the highest order.

Even worse, their narrow view of Christianity is paired with the firm belief that a good Christian is a political matter -- you can only be a social conservative in their book, and that you obviously cannot be both gay and a person of faith. That's why I wrote "This I believe," because I was sick and tired of being portrayed as some enemy of faith by the Peter LaBarberas of the world.
