Myrick courts Muslims
This should be interesting:
As U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick issued a third Internet video on terrorism Monday, she pledged to schedule a town hall meeting with the Charlotte Muslim community, saying she wants to embrace "mainstream Muslims" while fighting extremism.
"To be honest, there are people who, if you say, 'Sue Myrick,' they'll say, 'I hate her,'" Hamid said. "If she got to know her local Muslims, the people who she's representing, that would definitely help. ...
"Hopefully she'll recognize this urgency."
I wouldn't hold my breath.

Check out the comments
at the bottom of the article. Myrick's propaganda at work, no doubt.
Man, those comments are some creepy stuff
Maybe we really don't want Charlotte as part of North Carolina after all.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
I'm tempted to respond to this comment
by saying "well, if it is the Charlotte Muslim community that are being met with then the bus will have to just drive around the block once or twice and let them off right where they started if they're sending them home... but that seems just about cyclical and unnecessary enough to be worthy of government work."
But I'd rather not feed the government is bad/useless meme even for a joke around the kind of people making those comments.
Here's a taste
of some of the baggage Myrick brings into the meeting. From her Wake Up America Agenda page at her campaign site:
Apparently, treating religious leaders equally is un-American, at least in Sue Myrick's World.
The Enemy Within
Now, do not get me wrong. I am all about religious liberty and I am all about religious freedom in America.
But, we must be careful and watchful in our most diverse and increasingly troubled country today. It is not unamerican and it is not anti-diversity and it is not anti-inclusion to believe that there is an element in our American society today that we have not had to deal with in decades/centuries past. We must deal with radical islamic terrorism (among other types of terrorism, of course). It is here, it is prevelant, it is real and it has a goal to disrupt American society as we know it. We do have an enemy within that we can not afford to ignore because of political correctness.
I will certainly receive grief for posting this here, I am sure. But, I am not the only person on BlueNC that feels like I do, I am sure of that. This is not about liberal or conservative, democrat or republican. This is more than that.
Diverse? Increasingly troubled?
Timothy McVeigh's ghost agrees with you.
Keep looking at those brown people and ignore my kind.
Ha!
Such an old argument
McVeigh was most certainly a homegrown terrorist. He is an exception, of course. An exception does not disprove that we have a very serious threat in America from radical islamic terrorists. I hate it when people go back to McVeigh to try to say that we should overlook the obvious truth on terrorism with regard to America today.
I choose not to ignore that. I do not care if those that wish to take away our way of life are purple or green or whatever color. I do not care if they have ANY color. I care about what their intentions are. To ignore that is idiocy.
Choosing to ignore a lot, aren't we?
McVeigh wasn't the first or last white terrorist/coward.
More importantly is to understand how to defeat terrorists no matter their skin tint or motivation. Namely by not acting terrified.
Head over to Ed Cone's place for a linked refresher.
Every time we change our way of life, the terrorists - of any stripe - win.
Take it from a gay homersesual. You're free as soon as you live that way.
Not sure I follow you, usernamehere
I think you are trying to word-play here a little, not sure.
Do you not believe that we have a radical islamic terrorist threat in our country? Are you saying that we are all over reacting on this? Are you saying that by America working on ways to thwart threats and making efforts to keep our country safe from terrorism we're showing weakness and showing our "terror" over terrorism means the radicals win and that we should not be doing that? I am glad those guys on the plane that thwarted the underwear bomber "changed their way of life" long enough to keep hundreds of people from being blown up.
I am unapologetic about my beliefs with regard to what I truly and honestly believe is a very real threat to our nation by radical islamic terrorists. If you think that's wrong and if you think we should not be vigilent and that we should not double down on our efforts to keep our country safe from this known threat who admits they are at war with us IN THEIR OWN WORDS, then you sir are very free to believe that way and say what you want about it. It's a free country. At least it is so long as we do whatever it takes to stay that way.
I think I've made enough trouble for one night. Nighty night all :)
I hope you're just trying to match my snark factor
...when you type such lovelies:
If so, I tip my hat to you.
Nothing says "I've still got my freedom, you stupid terrorists" like being nude-rayed by the TSA.
Did you read the
entire article you linked to, Foxy? The families of the Washington Five approached CAIR (the group Myrick calls a terrorist organization), and CAIR told them to go to the FBI. Get it? Those homegrown radicalized Muslims are in custody today not due to profiling, but because other Muslims turned them in.
Aside from the fact that it wouldn't be right, we can't treat Muslims like second-class citizens because we need their help to counter the crime of terrorism.
I did read it
I do not think there could be any better way of keeping us "safe" from the radicalized Muslims than for the muslim community itself to become involved in helping the authorities identify who they are and offer up information about their plans. You are correct, sharrison, you cannot profile away the dangers and to be honest, I am not comfortable having my own wife or daughter going through those new machines at the airports that would show them nakey :), not to mention myself, especially if they have it real cold in the airport, if you know what I mean :)
The percentage of "radicals" v good citizens in the muslim community in America is very small, I know this. I am not "anti-Muslim" in any way. I think I came across "snarky" on a couple issues here yesterday (as usernamehere said :), this one included. It is just a hot-button issue for me right now.
