N&O Got a problem with Edwards?
A person starts to wonder. I've never had a quarrel (well, not in recent memory) with Dome's coverage, which I assume reflects N&O druthers, but this latest blurb on Haley Barbour's attacks on Edwards makes me wonder a bit. That is, on one hand, a person welcomes the idea that Haley Barbour might regard Edwards as a threat; on the other hand, looks to me as though the piece is actually carrying water for the GOP perspective -- and perhaps the perspective of those (Clinton, Obama) who want to brush him out of the way as well.
I cut-and-paste forthwith:
John Edwards' great leap forward
Submitted by ryanteaguebeckwith on January 18, 2008 - 6:18pm.
In a speech at the Republican National Committee winter meeting Friday, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour refrained from endorsing any GOP presidential candidate but took some shots at the Democrats, especially John Edwards.
"I was worried that it was bad for us that Hillary seemed to be running in the center," said Barbour of Sen. Hillary Clinton. "And (Sen. Barack) Obama is to the left of that."
"Edwards," said Barbour, "is running to the left of Mao Zedong."
Edwards' fiery anti-corporate rhetoric apparently reminds Barbour of the late Chinese communist leader, Mario Recio reports.

Yes
About once a week my mom asks me what the N&O has against Edwards. And about once a week she (seperately) complains because they cant seperate their opinions from their "news" and their "journalism".

My mom complained about them too.
Enough that she switched her subscription to the Fayetteville Observer. I'm not sure they're much better, but it was her way of protesting.
As for this:
I have doubts that Barbour ever read anything that Mao Zedong wrote, so I would dismiss that out of hand as b.s.

Difficult to know
Its difficult to know what news is truly unbaised. I think its better to read them all and draw my own conclusions.
Welcome to BlueNC
That's the approach I take and I include my blog reading in that. I verify everything I can in a variety of sources. When an article or blogger cites a report, I find the report. I could spend my entire day reading news if I didn't push away from this desk long enough to eat and sleep.
