NC GOP at odds with the courts, again

Attack on Planned Parenthood stymied:

U.S. District Judge James A. Beaty Jr temporarily blocked a provision in the North Carolina state budget which would ban Planned Parenthood and its affiliates from receiving any contracts or grants from the state health agency.

This is only a temporary reprieve until a lawsuit's been settled, but it (combined with other legal actions) does demonstrate quite clearly that the new Legislative majority has discarded responsibility in favor of radicalism. And they haven't even begun their "Constitutional Amendments" Session yet.

In writing the budget, Republican leaders pointed to Planned Parenthood's abortion services, but state and federal laws already ban using taxpayer funds for abortions.

The public funding that Planned Parenthood receives is earmarked for family planning, primary health care for low-income women, and testing for sexually transmitted diseases, and there was no indication the group had mingled its money, Special Deputy Attorney General Mabel Bullock has said.

Unfortunately, when you're dealing with a "radical movement", like the Tea Party wave these incompetent lawmakers rode into our General Assembly, form is much more important than substance. It doesn't matter that Planned Parenthood has operated both legally and ethically, and it doesn't matter they've safeguarded the health and welfare of tens of thousands of NC's women and children.

It only matters that they've been targeted by bloviating, self-righteous, anachronistic, misogynistic, superstitious circus performers who wouldn't know a genuine moral principle if it landed on their hollow heads hard enough to make a gong sound.

The NC GOP has attacked, in one form or another, nearly every single resident of our state. The irony is, who do you think is going to pay the legal fees to defend their destructive behavior? That's right, the very people who are being attacked.
