NC Weather Watch
How's the weather in your neck of the woods? Here in Moore County it's a cold and rainy day. The ground is saturated and pools of standing water dots our yard. We went out earlier to load up on bird, human and dog food for our possible snow day.
My daughter who lives in Rock Hill, SC (aka: South Charlotte) just called to say it's started to snow there.

Lost power for about 7 hours
The top concern on my mind as the house started getting colder was: "I can't make coffee!" ;/
We got at least 5 inches of snow, and because of my lack of exposure (lotta trees), I need to shovel my driveway or it will keep snow/ice on it for days.
Be careful shoveling that snow, Steve.
And as for coffee, I've been known to boil it over a pan with a couple of candles in it. It's not pretty, but it's coffee. (You know you're an addict when...)
I must needs be
about developing some emergency coffee preparation techniques. Forget about food. You can't find the food if you're huddled in the foetal position sobbing. So it's coffee first, then hunter/gatherer can follow. I bet that's what happened to the neanderthals. They worried too much about caffiene, so pretty soon all they did was sit in the cave opening waiting for animals to walk by:
"Anything come by yet?"
"I'll tell you the same thing I said fifteen minutes ago: 'No!', and 'Shut the hell up!'"

yeah, I was thinking the big kettle style but I guess a camp stove would do as well. See how far we've come from caveman?

Only a dusting
it was snowing throughout the night but this morning the ground wasn't totally covered and it's melting away fast. The roads are good, no black ice. Hope everyone else is safe and warm.
Linda, are you getting any snow yet?
Glad to know your neighbors made it out unscathed. Is there anything we can do to help them? Loosing everything in a fire is still pretty traumatic.
I don't know how much they lost -
I haven't talked to them today. If I find out anything they need, I'll let y'all know.
It was a pretty bad fire, but the neighbors seem ok.

At the coast
cold rain and alot of it. My yard is a mess, ground full and my front yard lake is filling up. YUCK.
The is also a good wind.
Just before sunset the clouds were very black.
Linda, I am sorry for your neighbor. I hope they are all well and that the fireman were able to save their home.

My prayers are with your neighbors. Reminds me of an important post by Granny Doc at Kos earlier today....East Coast Alert.
Grace and I were just outside - looks like a there's a fire.
One of our neighbors heats almost exclusively with wood. And from what I could tell, it looked like their house. Firetrucks are completely blocking airport road. I'm going to see if firefighters/paramedics need coffee or water.
What an awful thing.

My father lost power and they are heating with a wood burning fireplace.

Hey Linda, I was hoping you would weigh in
all the weather maps show us on the edge of 3 to 5 inch area and the 1 to 3 inch area. I wondered if the eastern part of the county was getting anything yet.

Here on the other side of the county, we've had a little sleet, and rain rain rain.
Since I work from home now, I'd love to wake up tomorrow to a winter wonderland.
Just spoke with my daughter in Rock Hill, SC
they have about 1 1/2 inches so far. Is that about in line with your area Betsy?
Turned over to snow
we thought it was still sleet mixed with rain but our friends in the northern part of the county just called to say their deck was covered with snow. So we took a flashlight and walked out in it. It's been snowing for a little while because there is already some accumulation on the grass. It's snowing very lightly here, but it is snowing.
Can you tell if it's accumulating much yet Betsy?

Snow flakes starting to mix in with the sleet
just talked to my friend in Robbins and it's just started snowing there.
Just turned over to sleet
we haven't had the wind that others spoke of with this yet.
Really windy in the Triad
And we had freezing rain for most of the day. The lights flickered a few times and that made me nervous but it warmed enough this afternoon to melt the ice that had built up on limbs.
