Afterwards the group headed over the Grove Park Inn for a meet and greet with elected officials including: Governor James Hunt, Congressman Heath Shuler, Chief Justice Sarah Parker, Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, Insurance Commissioner Jim Long and many others. The group’s presence was noted by 11th District Chair Luke Hyde who was quoted by the Asheville Citizen Times as saying “There’s more women, more diversity and more young people.”
The dinner was an opportunity for Democrats to fellowship, network and be inspired by the amusing and timely words of lifelong Democrat and John Edwards advisor David “Mudcat” Saunders. After the dinner, the group toured the hospitality suites hosted by the 11th Congressional District, Senator Walter Dalton, Senator Janet Cowell, Commissioner Jim Long and U.S. Senate candidate Jim Neal.
It was a busy weekend full of activism and celebration. College and Young Democrats continue to prove that from the coast to the mountains, they are a vital and committed component of our Party. Their efforts this weekend will help to ensure victories in Western North Carolina and will advance us one step forward to the North Carolina that we all want to see.
