NCGOP No Likey Dole and Burr

This story in The Charlotte Observer is too funny for words....but I'll give it my best shot. It seems that Republican Senators Dole and Burr have tried to delay the vote on Ferrell Blount's replacement because they don't like the list of nominees.

Guess what, Liddy and Dick, we don't either.

Pile on below the fold...

According to the Observer, interim chair, Linda Daves of Charlotte, declined to postpone the vote. It doesn't look like she appreciated the input of the esteemed senators much, either.

"The meeting is going to happen," Daves said Wednesday. "This is a situation that is left up to the (party) executive committee."

And why, you might ask, would Liddy and Dick want the vote delayed?

The move reflects a push by some within the GOP to bolster the party's fundraising ability and strengthen its ties to the business community. Democrats have outspent Republicans in statewide campaigns for years despite continuing growth in the GOP ranks.

That's all code for: moneymoneymoneymoney MONEY.

Man, Liddy and Dick dissed by their own party. You know Liddy Dole is in a nervous sweat. It's her seat up for grabs in two years and for the next six months the NCGOP will be operating under an interim chair with all sorts of folks vying for the seat in May. Repeat after me - complete and utter chaos.

The article goes on to say that Linda Daves has an advantage after serving seven years as vice-chair. Always the bridesmaid, Linda, always the bridesmaid. No wonder you didn't want to delay the meeting. I'm sure seven years of playing second fiddle gets old, especially when Liddy and Dick are so open about wanting to replace you with yet another man....because you knew it would be a man, right? Sucks, doesn't it, sweetie?

Good luck on Saturday, Linda. You deserve to sit in the big boy seat for the next six months. You've earned it. Oh, and I wouldn't let a little thing like insulting two United States Senators weigh heavy on you. You go, girlfriend.

Wow

I went looking for dirt on Linda Daves and gang and found a bit on Americablog back in 2004 when Ferrell Blount refused to let the Log Cabin Republicans set up a table at the state convention. He even called them disloyal....what, because they're gay? Anyway, this was in the NCGOP platform back in 2004 and may still be there.

Blount pointed to the party platform that says 'Republicans believe that a two-parent family, where a husband and wife live in harmony in one home, provides the ideal environment for raising children and is the best model for family life. We praise the courageous efforts of single parents who work hard to provide stable homes, and we recognize that single parents often succeed and two-parent families sometimes fail. We, therefore, oppose efforts to redefine the traditional family structure and offer the Republican Party as a refuge fore everyone concerned with about the breakdown of family life in America.'

Man, these people need help.

Wow!

Is this a direct quote?

It doesn't seem that NCLB has made much of a difference. Golf, anyone?

Boom. Boom. Boom.

Anyone who has ever said about Democratic party dysfunction needs to do a case study on the North Carolina Party of Greed. Between Dull, Brrrr, The Puppetmaster, The Tree Man and The Hairdresser, they have the makings of a spectacular sequel called the Lizards of Odds!

It seems

the only interest that Dole and Burr have in NC is that they can hand-pick the NCGOP head. Gosh,
I hope they get that chance. I see many opportunities for more hijinks than a re-run of Gilligan's
Island, only without the money of the Howell's to back them up (I guess Liddy would fancy herself as Ginger, but I see her filling the role of Gilligan as more appropriate). And Burr should not hold out hope for the Professor's role, more like Vito Scotti, appears out of nowhere every now and again, only to be foiled by the ineptitude of Gilligan. Who has the photshop skills to work that up?

To paraphase a famous anecdote

The opponent of my opponent is my friend.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Glad to have helped you out with a giggle

I wasn't able to sleep last night and this gift arrived from the Observer, so I sat and laughed while I wrote this and woke my 11-yr-old up in the process. She no likey mommy this morning. :)

They do get cranky

when you wake them up, don't they?

sidebar?: So ... can we begin our small monthly contributions to Larry for 2008 primary at ActBlue yet? (Sore memories of IL-06, 2004-2006.) Does Larry still have campaign or recount debt he needs help with?/sidebar

Larry still has debt

I would imagine it's still around $35,000 of debt right now. We can absolutely start monthly contributions or even quarterly or whatever we can afford.

My kids wouldn't wake up if a bomb went off...

If I get up to run at 5am, its okay, but 5:31? They are both up if I make the slighest creaking sound.

for which you must fall on your knees and thank your Maker, Robert P. :)

yeah...

we planned on being very Earthy, crunchy, non-scheduly parents when our son was born. then, he had "colic" for five months, which ended up being really severe acid reflux. For the first five months, he never slept more than 45 minutes at a time, ever. After that, once we got him on Prilosec, we went into a severe scheduling mode, bath, blanket, floor play in dim room with soothing music, book, rocking, sleep.

Now, both of our kids fall asleep at night like they were shot, usually. With both kids, we transferred into "big kid" beds with no problems. They hardly ever get out of bed and even then they never leave their rooms. So, those sleepless five months proved very useful in the long run.
