Here's the link to the Rasmussen poll story on Dole/Hagan.
Here's the link to the one showing a two point margin for McCain over Obama.
At one point in 1992, it looked like Clinton could win the state. He came close.

For Hagan, 22%
of respondents were "Not sure" if they viewed her favorably or unfavorably. Does that mean she still has a bit of a name recognition problem across the state?

My guess is that the bounce numbers reflected more of a generic Dole vs. Dem and the new numbers are more candidate to candidate.
Dole is already on TV with ads.
Two at least
Which is to say....
She's running a smart campaign. She has lots of money and will be able to raise more, so she needs to get out there with tons of early advertising and cement a lead.
This is pretty much what Erskine Bowles did, but then he quit spending. So, what we need to do is make her spend herself off the air and then hit her hard in the last month or so.
totally
only thing is Liddy might be able to keep hauling in those dollars. Funny thing: McCain is having a tough time getting big bucks from the huge cadre of former Bush donors. I think in many respects, Dole will be quite good at getting those bucks (after all, it's a race the GOP can win....and really needs to win). She's been a good girl, hasn't gone on rustling conservative feathers over the years like McCane.
