N&O Reports that Federal Grand Jury Looking into John Edwards' Campaign Finance

Did John Edwards pay documentarian Rielle Hunter out of campaign funds?

We know he paid for her film services. Any ideas why this is happening now? Slow day in the prosecutor's office? Normal course of business?

I believe Fred Baron picked up the tab for a lot of what went on

but that doesn't answer the larger question. At this point I'm not sure how relevant it all is.
Edwards, unless he's as dense as Newt Gingrich, is out of politics. His personal life has to be in shambles. His reputation and stature will likely suffer even more as the events of those times eventually unfold...as they surely will. Some one will ultimately tell what really happened. Accusations of breaking the law would be just the icing on the cake....a very large and tasteless cake.

If you never knew Fred Baron personally, then you may find it difficult to understand the level of compassion and generosity he was capable of. For those who were privileged to work with him, it is highly plausible that he independently provided financial assistance to 2 former campaign workers. Keep in mind that Ms. Hunter, along with Andrew Young and his family, were not celebrities, but private citizens, being harassed by the National Enquirer.

was capable of generosity without being directed to give money by anyone else. He didn't need permission or direction to help these two avoid the spotlight that would have been a bit brighter in NC.

I also don't really have a problem with investigations into campaign finance. It just seemed odd to be popping up now.
