N&O says that straight-party ticket option won't vote for Prez. What's the deal?

Today's N&O reports that "filling in the straight-party ticket circle won't register a vote for president, judicial races and nonpartisan contests such as school board." (page 10A) Is this true? The concept makes sense for nonpartisan races but it doesn't seem to make any sense for the Presidential contest.

Robert Peterson sent out an email last week to us Dogwood Dems debunking an email warning people against straight-party voting. That faux-warning had a slightly different angle.

Can someone set the record straight on this--here at BlueNC and hopefully for the N&O as well? We called Jerry Meek and left him a message asking for clarification.

I hate that this confusion is going on after voting has started!

The Obama Straight Flip

What is the "Obama Straight Flip"? Funny you should ask...

Is it a tasty and refreshing beverage?---Could be...

Is it a brand new dance craze sweeping the nation?---Could be...!!

Is it a winning hand for Democracy?---Most Definitely!!!!

The "Obama Straight Flip" is a fun and exciting way to educate voters as to
how they should vote during Early Vote and on Election Day. It can be anything
you want it to be so long as you:

  1. Vote for Obama

  2. Vote the Straight Democratic ticket
  3. Flip the ballot and vote for the Democratic judges on the reverse side

The "Obama Straight Flip."

Simple, direct, to the point; so many variations, only one possibility:
Victory November 4th!!!!

"You could say, 'Look, is this guy, Laden, really the bad guy that's depicted?' Most of us have never heard of him before." John McCain, following Clinton's strikes on al Qaeda camps

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

So who are the Democratic judges?

So who are the Democratic judges? I know I am not the only one who doesn't have that information at my fingertips.

Once I get that I will be ready to vote.

Hey Mojo Mom

Here's what you do....go to the North Carolina Democratic Party Website, scoll down a little and on the right you'll see a box titled "Democratic Judges".

Now open another window and go to your County's Board of Elections website or just follow this link to the North Carolina State Board of Elections website to find your County's BOE.

When you find your county BOE, look for a sample ballot or voter's guide. It will list all the judges you are eligible to vote for. Now go back to the NC Dem Party website and match up the Democratic Judges listed there with your county list.

Since you'll be doing that for yourself, make a cheat sheet and email it to everyone in your email address book that could use it and ask them to forward to their email list. Rinse and repeat!

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Don't miss your local judges

The district court judges are not running state-wide races, so they are not listed on the NC BOE site. There also may be local nonpartisan board seats, bond issues, and the like. Go to your county party site for these. Here's the link for Wake.

I can't believe I am only hearing about that now....

Hi Robert, Thanks for the info about straight-party voting and the extra step of voting for Obama separately. I looked at the sample ballot and that is pretty clear. But still, I can't believe that as involved as I have been, I am only hearing about this issue now.

I hope the "Obama Straight Flip" video gets distributed far & wide.
