Progress 2006: Next to last chance to weigh in

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

BlueNC's new Progress 2006 initiative focuses on two things: (1) advocating a progressive agenda in North Carolina and (2) educating voters about progressive leaders. This entry is about the latter:

As we gear up for the November elections, shouldn't we be focusing our support on truly progressive candidates - those we can count on to stand for a progressive North Carolina.

The lists below were created by BlueNC readers over the past couple of months. The top group are incumbents facing opposition, the bottom group are challengers. Are these the right people? Is there anyone missing? Are there individuals who shouldn't be included? Please weigh in. I want to lock this list down by Labor Day and ask Lance to create an Act Blue page to make it easy for visitors here to support progressives in districts beyond their own.

NOTE: In earlier versions, there were some county commissioner candidates, but I've decided to leave them off so we can tighten our focus on this pilot program.

A

PS I had the chance to meet Deborah Ross at a meeting tonight, and I have to say, I'm in love. Man is she sharp. People fortunate enough to be represented by this woman should count their blessings. Might even be worth moving to Raleigh.

Pricey Harrison is the only House Member on the list

who asked Jim Black to step down. She has been the person most willing to stick her neck out for ethics reform in practice. Vote for Pricey!

And she gets five stars for that in my book.

Go Pricey!

Coates and Underhill

Was it today or yesterday that Rep. Lorene Coates (D)H-77, (Rowan) and Rep. Alice Underhill (D)H-3, (Craven/Pamlico) both renewed their calls for Black to step down?

I know Coates was one of the original Dems in the House who called for Black to step down a while back. I don't know if either has an opponent, and I don't know their voting records, so I don't know if you could call them Progressives, technically, but I give 'em both gold stars for speaking up when it counts, anyway.

Gerald Galloway NC H52 - Moore County

He is running for Richard Morgan's seat. Remember Morgan was pounced on by the Pope machine. Anyway, the candidate that beat Morgan is Joe Boylan, but a 3rd entry Manilla "Bud" Shaver, another Republican was entered via signatures as was Galloway.

Galloway has agreed to answer the questionaire I sent him and will write an article (with pictures!). They had a debate Monday, (the Pilot calls it "Public", didn't see it advertised) and the Pilot gave a sort of skim milk story on it.

Self plug

Plug for Lyndon. Is there a questionarre I can give him to fill out?

Lyndon Helton for NC Senate

Ellie

I missed some context, but if this is a list of candidates who need help from Blue NC, I don't think Ellie Kinnaird needs to be on the list. She'll win in a walk.
