North Carolina Federation of College Democrats Endorses Barack Obama

Today, the North Carolina Federation of College Democrats endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States, they announced. Referencing Senator Obama’s unique ability to hold American politics to a new and higher standard, build effective bipartisan coalitions, and make prudent judgments with respect to domestic and international policy, the state executive board unanimously declared their support.

“People such as Barack Obama are a rarity in American politics,” said President of the North Carolina College Democrats Douglas Massengill. “Equipped with a capacity for delivering the core message of the Democratic Party that is unmatched across decades of history, he has done more to engage not just young people, but Americans of all ages, classes, genders, races, and faiths in the political process than any figure in recent memory. This is because the premises of his campaign—hope, bipartisan consensus, factually informed leadership, and holding our politics to a new, higher standard—have resonated across old boundaries to find appeal in every corner of this country. There is a very real qualitative difference in terms of the choices that we are being offered in this election, and I’m proud to stand with Barack Obama. He will turn North Carolina blue in November.”

College students have turned out in overwhelming numbers in support of Barack Obama in each state that has participated in the nomination process this year—especially North Carolina. From the University of North Carolina at Asheville deep in the Appalachians to East Carolina University situated at the opposite end of the state, thousands of young people, previously inactive, took part in the American political process for the first time in voting for Senator Obama. The North Carolina Federation of College Democrats is strongly encouraging all Democratic officeholders and organizations in the Tar Heel State to support Barack Obama.

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
