North Carolina waits while US Senate confirms Virginia judge

North Carolina remains woefully underrepresented on the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. NC only has one judge on the Fourth Circuit.

Today, North Carolinians of all politcal persuasions should know that the US Senate continued to perpetuate this historic unfairness against North Carolina by taking time for two votes on a judge from Virginia.

A vote on cloture was held by the full Senate, and a vote on the nomination was held by the full Senate for this Virginia judge. North Carolina's nominees are still waiting.

You may logically ask where North Carolina's nominees are in the process. Well, they've been waiting for a floor vote in the Senate for over a month. All that stands between better representation for North Carolina on the Fourth Circuit is the floor of the US Senate.

Check the history for Judge Wynn and Judge Diaz here.

Both North Carolina nominees passed out of the Judiciary Committee with nearly universal bipartisan support. Only one Senator voted against either of the judges.

So, who is holding up North Carolina's bipartisan-approved judicial nominations?

Which news organization will be the first to cover this?

Which US Senate candidates will make this an issue?

Which party cares more about North Carolina being represented on the Fourth Circuit?

Senators Burr and Hagan found time to vote on a judge from Virginia. Check the roll call votes. They both voted today.

Will either of them press their colleagues in the Senate for a vote about North Carolina?

Taking too long

I agree that North Carolina needs some attention by the U. S. Senate to confirm our two excellent nominees--Wynn and Diaz-- for this court. The whole process of filling vacant federal judgeships is appalling. It takes many years to fill them and the delays are based on petty politics, to say the least.

More reaction to a 99-0 vote after months of filibustering

After the 99-0 votes in the US Senate yesterday, North Carolina's judicial nominees are still waiting.

Crook and Liars offers some thoughts.

Who is stopping NC judges from getting a vote?

Update: Senator Hagan and mainstream media arrive at the game

Under the Dome posts a clip from Senator Hagan on the floor of the US Senate.

My next question is: where is Senator Burr on this matter?

This original post was on March 2. It's been over two weeks, and still no vote on North Carolina's judicial representation on the Fourth Circuit.

Tick Tock.

Maybe some Ke$ha will energize the US Senate.

TiK freakin' ToK, Senators.

Further Update: Rhode Island gets a judge, NC still waits

The US Senate had time to confirm a judge from Rhode frickin' Island to a Ciruit Court this afternoon.

Here's the roll call.

NC's nominations....still waiting.

It's interesting that the Rhode Island judge was reported by the Judiciary Committee in January -- the same month North Carolina's judges were reported.
