NRCC Screws the Pooch......and Robin Hayes

This evening, the DCCC will hold a fundraiser to help Larry Kissell erase the personal debt he acquired in his bid to help take our congress and our country back in 2006. His bid last cycle fell short by a mere 329 votes and Larry is working hard to improve his name recognition and to keep his positives high with the voters. Let's help Larry Kissell retire his personal campaign debt. If you go here and make a contribution, it will be matched two to one. Don't miss this opportunity to turn your $50 into $150 for Larry Kissell. Please note, that the matching will only count toward contributions received at this link. Contributions made to Kissell's 2008 campaign link will not be matched.

Larry Kissell is running stronger than ever. He polls within a point of Robin Hayes in the uninformed vote in the latest Anzalone-Liszt polls performed for Kissell. The informed vote - with positives read for both Kissell and Hayes - shows Kissell polling several points ahead of Hayes and outside the margin of error. This has the NRCC running scared and they are attacking early.

Recently the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC) filed a formal complaint against Larry Kissell because his FEC paperwork wasn't as tidy as they thought it should be.

The National Republican Campaign Committee said Larry Kissell's campaign filings "show a pattern of inaccuracies and misrepresentations."

"Kissell's debt magically disappears, then reappears with no rhyme or reason as to how debt was paid or created," according to the complaint, signed by Elizabeth Beacham, chief counsel to the House GOP's political arm. "At a time when voters demand transparency of elected officials, Kissell's reports reflect a candidate who either a) is hiding something from the public, or b) is clearly incapable of filing accurate FEC reports."

Now, the NRCC chooses to hide from the public the fact that Congressman Robin Hayes, Kissell's opponent, has received at least 36 notices of possible violations from the FEC and many of these have come in the past two years. Six of these were second notices that had to be sent after Hayes and his campaign ignored or failed to respond to the first FEC requests.

As much as I have criticized Robin Hayes, I've not picked on him for his sloppy performance in the area of campaign finance reporting simply because I know it is a very common problem with campaigns. Apparently, I'm not the only one who realizes this. From the article in The Hill:

An election law specialist with Holland & Knight, LLP, Christopher DeLacy, said it is “pretty routine for all committees to have to file amended reports. Sometimes it’s significant and sometimes it’s not.”

Sure it's routine as we can see by Robin Hayes' 36 notices from the FEC. For a while it was routine for Hayes to fail to comply with FEC requests.

Let's look at the year 2000. Robin Hayes received notices of possible violations from the FEC after every major filing of campaign finance reports except the pre-primary filing. Robin Hayes' April Quarterly had to be amended three different times. His irregularities in April - receiving excessive contributions from multiple donors. His irregularities noted after the July filing - receiving excessive contributions from multiple donors. Robin Hayes' irregularities noted after the October filing - receiving excessive contributions from multiple donors. I don't know about you, but I'm seeing a pattern here. Hayes' pre-general filing notice from the FEC also noted excessive contributions, the post-general filing notice from the FEC concerned the failure to file required 48-hour notices and the year-end filing notice from the FEC informed Hayes that his totals didn't balance with previous reports.

WAIT! Isn't that similar to what the NRCC is claiming is wrong with Kissell's reports? The NRCC's claims would be a lot more credible if their guy didn't show a huge number of possible violations of compaign finance law on his own compliance record. On top of all these noted problems by the FEC, the Hayes' campaign either intentionally ignored or failed to respond to all but the April notice from the FEC resulting in five second notices from the commission for the year 2000 filings. According to the NRCC's standards it appears that Robin Hayes' record of inaccuracies, irregularities and possible finance law violations

......reflect a candidate who either a) is hiding something from the public, or b) is clearly incapable of filing accurate FEC reports."

It sure looks to me like the NRCC is describing Robin Hayes with this comment.

Let's make Larry Kissell's debt disappear for good. Go here to really get the NRCC whining about something.

Done

Go Larry go!

Two wrongs don't make a right . . .

or even 36! If Larry's filings are wrong, then he needs to get it right. He's paying good money to staff members who need to learn how it's done.

Reading comprehension

Nobody said it made it right....

It does however make the NRCC hypocrites.

Roll Call

Contacted several of us today - I just spoke with their reporter - wanting to know what we think of Larry being the "DCCC Candidate" . . . wondering whether he's far enough left to satisfy the anti-Joe Lieberman crowd.

My response: Larry is not the DCCC's candidate - he's the candidate for the people of the 8th District. He is sensible and moderate in his views . . . and he's exactly the kind of Democrat needed to replace the hideous Robin Hayes.

I'm not sure what Roll Call is up to . . . mostly I just think they're trying to find a little bit of controversy. It ain't there.

Just got home from the DCCC event

Hi Blue NC gang. Transplanted 8th District guy up here in DC reporting in about the DCCC event for Larry tonight. It was no frills- but very well attended. I was impressed that so many current members of Congress showed up, as they still had business on the floor while the event was being held. Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Hoyer, Congressman Davis (Ala), Congressman Van Hollen (Md) and most of the NC democratic delegation (Miller, Etheridge, Price, Shuler) showed their support for Larry.

For me, this has been a long time coming. I had never met Larry- who, I have to say, lives up to his down-home, folksy, looks you in the eyes reputation! I am not going to get into the debate about who is or is not the DCCC candidate, because I am still bitter about their lack of support in 2006, but I really got the feeling that the leadership in the room tonight know what a good candidate Larry Kissell is and would like to see him representing the good people of North Carolina. I have no idea how much money was raised, but have to say at most of these events in DC, especially in the summer- people either send a check or drop one by........they don't usually stay. Tonight they stayed.

I took my mom, Ginny Jochems (she happened to be visiting) who worked for 24 years in constituent services for the last Democrat that represented NC 8 (Bill Hefner). She worked so long and so hard fighting for veterans and mill workers and other 8th district residents- doing the grunt work and "paying her dues" and putting up with bs from the bubbas who ran the democratic party in NC for so long.........I wanted to get her in the same room with our first female Speaker! It was a good night!

Meeting some of Larry's staff (like the very smart Steve Hudson)and talking about the upcoming campaign and seeing the national support Larry is getting made the evening all worth it. Besides for me-- bitter, bitter me (about '06) I had to go, because my hard earned $50 was turned into $150 by the DCCC. Life is good.

Thanks for the report!

I'm glad to know that the leadership, especially Speaker Pelosi, was there. I love thinking about my $25 turning magically into $75 - and hearing that the bigwigs (as opposed to the empty wigs) were there supporting down-to-earth Larry Kissell makes me extremely happy, and gives me a smile before I call it a night.

Thanks.

Pelosi did not stay long

but she showed up! Like you Icloud, the allure tonight for me was all about the 2 for 1 match. It is about time the DCCC showed Larry some love. Sweet Dreams!

greetings to Ginny!

Say hi to your mom from me (tell her it's Thierry). We're holding the fort down here in Cabarrus County and are looking forward to see her back soon.
I bet she was excited!

Left on 49

Will Do

I think given the scandal(s) that the Republicans are having in Cabarrus (and Stanley) since she has been up here, maybe she should stay!! Seriously, she's my mom, so I thank you for appreciating her and will pass on your nice message.

very smart Steve Hudson?

You sure we know the same Steve Hudson? Bwahahaha....just kidding Steve.... :)

KEV! Where have you been? It's great to see you dropping back by. I know it's hard to find time to get by here more regularly, but I sure do miss chatting. Don't be such a stranger. Glad your mom got to be in the room with Nancy Pelosi. I wish I could have been there.
