NYT Discovers Asheville

The New York Times ran a comic strip today featuring David Roat, Drinking Liberally, Leni Sitnick, Gordon you-know-who, the Tastee Diner. A lot of us met Campbell, the illustrator, last week. Thanks for the shoutout, Cam.

Interesting Dynamic
Asheville makes for an incredibly interesting dynamic in anticipation of the primary. With this being a delegate fight, and some delegats being based on congressional districts, the 11th will be an intriguing matchup between "elite liberals" and "blue collar whites" as the media would say.

This is wonderful, Gordon.

Methinks Boone/Watauga
may fit this mold as well.

I, like Allan, am really excited about getting back to fiction after this is all over...
I'll be glad to be getting back to reading fiction
and writing blogs about education and families. But I don't resent that the primary has gone on, and I don't resent that turn out in our primary has been so historically high, and I don't resent that tomorrow, I will get to see the next president of the United States speak, and Senator Hillary Clinton, too.
I guess I can sleep on Wednesday. :-D

Reading the cartoon, I had to wonder...
Why does the NYT use Senator Clinton's middle name but not Senator Obama's? (I am not trying to start a discussion on his middle name; I actually see nothing wrong with it.)
Just curious.
She used to go by Rodham and then Clinton, then Rodham Clinton.
And she has switched back and forth on using her full name over the years. The NYT may be going by its own policy of using the name the candidate has used for him or herself, and for years the full name is what she has used.
BUT OH WAIT . . . it's probably a conspiracy on that LIBERAL NYT rag (and what a tired, utterly exploded theory that is) to avoid the inflammatory quality of Obama's middle name. Probably has nothing to do with the fact that he doesn't use it himself, right?

Settle down there, Bru...
I do not like the accusation of "conspiracy" on either side. We all have our own biases, and like attracts like.
Actually, I have many Middle Eastern friends with names that surely get flagged by DHS. I could care less what Obama's middle name is (after all, I have two myself); I am sure he is not overly worried about it.
Actually, I think he could neutralize it himself by going ahead and referring to himself by his full name...what would anyone have to say?
oops
Sorry about that TC; I just took a shot 'cause I saw you won't lookin'.
Worried about it? I think "worry" is the wrong word, but there's no question that it is exploited by those who want to paint him evil.
And no, I don't think (and can't believe you really think) that he would neutralize anything by using his middle name. In fact, it would be pounced upon as a "code" signal to his fellow muslims. Right? The myth that he is muslim is still alive and well.

No worries, I'm irie...
But you are right-in no way do I think Obama is going to start using his middle name; there are way too many people (in both parties, as well as undecided) who would vote against him for that reason. They still may, who really knows in November (Yes, I think he will survive HRC).
