Obstructionist Burr blames "logjam" on Democrats

In his newest effort to mislead voters, Richard Burr tries to shift the blame for legislative gridlock onto the other guys:

U.S. Sen. Richard Burr said Monday the November election may be the only way to break the partisan logjam in Congress.

Speaking to reporters on the day he filed for re-election, the N.C. Republican blamed most of the gridlock on Democrats, particularly what he called the "dictatorial" style of Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.

If any of those reporters are reading this, follow me below the fold so you can understand the implication of this statement.

Setting aside (for the moment) the illogic of a filibuster-loving Republican complaining about gridlock, Burr's statement about "style" reveals the true nature of our senior Senator's inexperience and immaturity when it comes to representing millions of North Carolinians.

What matters to those millions is not style, but substance. They don't care about politeness and decorum, or whether the leadership in the Senate clasps its hands and asks, "pretty please", or asks more forcefully. It's what's in the actual legislation that matters, not how it's presented.

By focusing on style, Richard Burr demonstrates very clearly that he is more concerned with his ego than his constituents' needs. But you know what? It's not his fault, it's ours. We've sent him back to Washington numerous times, despite the fact that he's done more harm than good, so he has good reason to ignore his own shortcomings and place his ego up on a pedestal.

The voters of North Carolina created and exacerbated the problem, and they are the only ones who can fix it.

For those interested in the Burr's actual voting record

Here are the US Senate roll call votes for 2010.

It's interesting how Burr either fails to vote for cloture or fails to vote at all. I'm not sure which is worse. Absentee senator anyone?

The 2009 US Senate roll call votes are here.

From the first vote of 2009 (a cloture vote where Burr failed to even vote) to the last cloture vote of 2009 (Burr voted no), Burr has embodied obstruction and failure to act.

His actions are on record for all to see.

Time to try someone different.

Hey, NCDP and Cal -- you're welcome

I've just gotten emails in the past two hours from the NC Democratic Party and the Cunningham campaign about Burr not voting -- after my post went up this morning.

My fee for opposition research is waived in this case.

Your failure to lead and general willingness to wait for someone else to do the research is noticed.

NCDP, since we know you're reading, I recommend spending the next 60 hours (until noon Friday) recruiting candidates for legislative seats where you have no candidate yet.

I'd start with Cleveland County as no Democrat has filed to run for any of the four legislative seats there (one Senate, three House) including an incumbent Rep. England. Call your party chairs in Cleveland and Rutherford counties and get on the stick.

Debbie Clary should be a relatively easy target. She barely won last time around. And she's broken her term-limit pledge.

Might want to check with Walter Dalton too. He knows a thing or two about how to win in that area.

Hey, at least they got on it.

That said, you're right about the next 60 hours. The proof of the pudding will be in the tasting.

KUDOS for ya, usernamehere

So, you beat them to the punch. You're the MAN ! Bravo.

If (and that is a big "if") they did then go on the Burr-not-voting bandwagon because of your post, hopefully you will help them further.

After all, it takes all of us...everyone...the party faithful to help us get Burrski out of office.

If we are all about who said what first or was "right" or did this/did that...we lose.

Thanks for your contribution, username.

The Republican Senate is

The Republican Senate is currently blocking 209 bills already passed by the House.

16 years

It sure doesn't say much

for our standards. Just the thought that he might skate through another election this year makes me want to scream.

Not if I have anything to do with it

I am a Cal fan (yeah, I know, you've heard that enough times here :), but regardless who the democratic candidate is that will end up running against this sorry excuse for a U.S. Senator from NC, I will be working for that person. He is V E R Y vulnerable and if we do our homework and work diligently and put everything we have into this race, this bunglesome idiot can be defeated. Let's do it, y'all !!!

Burr's sloppy start

From Tom Jensen at PPP.

It may be that in this political climate Burr can do whatever he wants and still get reelected. But failing to show up for a vote on the jobs bill the day he filed and making grand declarations about how far to the right he leans aren't terribly savvy things to do to kick off your campaign, especially when your approval is in the mid-30s to begin with.
