Oh, just let them have babies
They are shameless. Not only are they again targeting Planned Parenthood as the only contract provider of family planning services in NC. Our foresighted legislators are also proposing huge cuts in funding for teen pregnancy prevention programs that have been effectively reducing the number of teen pregnancies in NC.
The problem is that federal TANF Block grant funds for pregnancy prevention were reduced and the state is not going to pick up the slack.
According to the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina, this cut will mean that eight local pregnancy prevention projects will have to be cut or not funded. At one time, 71 local projects in the state helped teens focus on schoolwork and their futures rather than becoming parents prematurely. These cuts will eliminate another 8 of the remaining 58 programs.
The funding that was lost after the last cuts was never recouped. This proposed cut is another 16% decrease in funding for local pregnancy prevention projects.
It is expected that this proposal as part of the compiled budget bill will be voted on tomorrow (Tuesday, May 29) by the House Appropriations Committee.

I just don't get it
All the data show that when it comes to teen and unplanned pregnancy, an ounce of prevention is worth a lot of future taxpayer dollars to support young women who have babies instead of graduating high school.
I guess our legislators would rather keep women barefoot and pregnant. Less chance of some of them becoming legislators themselves!
Take something that works, and break it.
And once our successful reduction in teen pregnancies is reversed, this is the kind of support those young mothers can expect:
I'm not sure what this idiot envisions as far as taking care of babies but not mothers. Take the babies away, and place them in some kind of state-sponsored baby dormitory? Zombie Joseph Stalin would be impressed.
