Old school v. new's latest chapter
David Sirota blogged today on MyDD something I desperately needed to hear:
Beltway operatives, consultants and other professional election losers, desperate to hang onto their little fiefdoms, label the populist revolt within the party as supposedly coming only from the "left" - but as Hostile Takeover details, extensive public opinion polling data shows that those of us fighting the takeover represent the true "vital center" of the vast majority of America - and the status quo apologists are the ones wholly out of step with the country.
Out in the west, it's easy to forget that Progressives are the salvation of the party and not the interlopers. I haven't yet put to the keyboard my frustrations with old school county chairs that don't believe in direct voter contact, open meetings, or anything else that will help win elections. It was particularly nice to read David's comments (in reponse to an attack on his new book).

There's a movement in the force.
And we're part of it.
Really.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
This is something I've been pondering lately.
I'm considering switching my affiliation from D to unaffiliated. I've been a registered democrat since I turned 18 (back in '94), but the Party machinery that grinds on, unchangingly, spitting forth identical candidates in a mold of "electability," utterly failing to distinguish itself from the other Party and its machinery, does not consider the views I hold as a Progressive half as important as keeping the power flowing to their machine.
I wonder whether a mass de-affiliation by progressive democrats would be noticed by those operating the machinery.
I've been having the same thoughts.

That's what they want
If old school types keep control, we'll have two out-of-touch parties and how long before a progressive party has enough office-holders to weild some power?

Around here that's what they're hoping for
