One for the show
It's an exciting day in the Old North State when one of North Carolina's leading political reporters does a hit job on a major piece of public policy with sources that are all controlled and funded by Art Pope. In fact, this kind of serious journalism calls for a celebration! Welcome to the Show, Mr. Christensen. Congratulations.
- Perri Morgan, identified as "founder of Capitol Monitor, a Raleigh nonprofit organization that monitors stimulus spending." The major funder -- John Pope Foundation.
- Tom Fetzer, N.C. GOP Chairman (the state GOP headquarters building is named for John Pope)
- Brian Balfour, "an analyst with the conservative, Raleigh-based Civitas Institute. The major funder -- John Pope Foundation.
- Les Merritt, "executive director of the Foundation for Ethics in Public Service. A major funding -- John Pope Foundation.
You gotta hand it to the Puppetmaster. He definitely knows how to get his money's worth.

Buying into idiocy
That there is even a debate about whether federal stimulus funds have in some way mitigated the impact of the recession (or nascent depression) is simply stunning.
For Christsensen to allow himself to be drawn into this storyline by the Pope funded hydra is embarrassing.
Where is the story on FMAP, and how failure to send it to the states will impact NC?
You want to shore up the state employee retirement fund? Get FMAP fully funded and sent down to the states.
There's $130 million to shore up the pension fund in there.
And why aren't Democrats hammering that anyway?
Exactly
This sort of bullshit false-equivalency is mostly what sometimes passes for journalism. As if.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Correction
Fetzer is not controlled by Art Pope from what I can see. Pope backed a different horse in the contest to see who would head up the North Carolina GOP, and his horse lost.
Tom Fetzer has never been included on the Show map, even though the party he leads benefit greatly from Pope family money.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Chris Fitzsimon
also covering the new inductee to the Show this morning in his "Monday Numbers" post.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Fair and balanced...
Why do so-called "journalists" insist on delivering "news analysis" that pits one side observing that the sky is blue, and the other side insisting that it is dark brown, with each given equal weight to their arguments? Even worse, when the dark brown argument is given twice as much newsprint or airtime....
