Open shred: Vermin meets his match

Brad Miller had the unpleasant task of meeting the Vermin for a debate today.

A bemused Miller countered by blasting Robinson for a campaign mailer that implicitly suggested the congressman was gay and criticized Miller for being "childless." Miller's wife had a hysterectomy more than two decades ago. "It's clear that Vernon Robinson is obsessed with sex," Miller said afterward. He spent much of the debate chuckling at Robinson's claims.

It looks like it must have been one helluva debate. If I were the good Congressman, I wouldn't waste my breath debating the Vermin two more times.

But where did this take place?

;)

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

The story says Winston Salem

But it could have been in Kansas since Vermin doesn't even live in the damn district.

Isn't there a law that says you have to live in the district you

want to represent? Or is that another "it's ok if it's a republican" thing?

Not for Congress

You only have to live within the state to run for a seat in Congress. Kind of silly, huh?

Debate

It was at WXII and you can still watch it if you go on line at WXII12.com.

Personally

I think Brad looked very goodlooking and the vermin looked like a big fat turd. Oh, there were issues too. The vermins issues never change and he never stops lying.

Thanks Love, going there now!

Heard about it on NPR!!!!

WTFF?

It's a crime not to have kids now? Someone who's not even part of Miller's relationship with his wife has a right to say boo about their reproductive status?

Ooh, that burns me up.

sad

The Child-free are still a good deal stigmatized in society. Whether Miller and his wife are without children by choice or by biological circumstance shouldn't matter. But American society, particularly the religious parts, still looks down on childless couples as inferior. Like there's something "wrong" with it.
There's even support groups/social groups for Child-free folks like "No Kidding" among others. The fact we even need such groups at all is ridiculous.

Tell me about it.

If I were Miller in that debate, I would have expressed shock that he feels it appropriate to comment on such an intimate part of my life. "Mr. Robinson, my wife's and my reproductive status is not any of your business, and I am horrified that you think it is."

But what vermin's obsession indicates is this: the idea that people can get married because they love each other, rather than to Make Babies for Gawd, let alone engage in *whisper* marital relations without there being a chance of procreation, makes his fundamentalist head explode. For many of the same reasons that fundies want to ban contraception, even from married couples. Which is, at its core, a desire to punish women for having sex, and to keep them in their place (which is, naturally, barefoot, pregnant, and in the kitchen.) Childfree women frighten them, because we refuse to be enslaved to their sexist notions. Men, however, are still not fully exempt, because they dirty themselves by thinking lustfully about women and even more by acting on lustful desires. Only by impregnating the woman can they remove the taint of woman-uncleanness.

Fundamentalism isn't only misogynist; it's also incredibly misandrist.

Whoa, thread drift. Sorry *^_^*
