Planners should not get ahead of demonstrated public preferences.

Yeah!

Take THAT Ike. Dang interstate highway system. Who'd he think he was, anyway?

And take THAT Gov. Hunt. Dang RTP. Who'd he think he was, anyway?

And take THAT Sanford and Hunt, etc. Dand NCSSM. Who'd they think they were, anyway?

Ahem. I believe one might refer to those good men as LEADERS ... but what do I know?

P.S. I am really impressed with all the new posters and commenters around these parts. Did some three part article about blueNC come out lately or something? If I'm late for work I'm taking a page from the GOP play book and blaming "market forces" ... just so you know. ;)

P.P.S. Where's my commuter train, NC leaders?

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Great comments, Leslie!

And take THAT Surgeon General, you and your stupid second hand smoking rules. Not nearly enough people have died to qualify for "demonstrated" public preference.

the train is in the mail...

hopefully a Democratic majority will be more accepting of applications for transit and not switch their priorities and requirements every other week.

Plan your work and work your plan - How unHoody!

Yep. You don't want planning and zoning commissions weighing in until the development is complete. And you don't want sedimentation and erosion control worrying about it until the lakes silt over. Don't plan to do anything while you have a chance to have some effect. You know, like, we shouldn't plan to do anything about global climate change until the people are screaming about the waves crashing on their doorsteps in Elizabethtown.

The last comprehensive county plan

called for a reevaluation of the I-40 corridor and whether we wanted it to go through Orange County.

What we need is vision, not details. Details will come with time, but first we need a vision of what the future of development will look like.

Nov. 7th, the public demonstrated a preference

for DEMOCRATS. Hood should start planning for obsolescence. He already has the irrelevance thing down pat.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.

I suppose we should be focused on planning the past, then

I plan to not have those last few beers the night before graduation. Oy.

Funny,Lance

but let's not even think about going back in time to undo mistakes. Of course, it would mean I could rethink that frizzy perm back in the 70s.

I'd like to plan...

NOT to be such an idiot, all 736 times, whether alcohol-induced or not.

Hoody Doody

Since I'm dealing with a 2 year old let's apply that logic:

Planners should not get ahead of demonstrated public preferences.

Poop first, then clean up and position potty in preferred location. I don't think so.

Word Up

Here's a few more inanities courtesy of The Progress Report:

At a "First Amendment awards dinner," former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-GA) said yesterday "the country will be forced to reexamine freedom of speech to meet the threat of terrorism." He said a "different set of rules" may be needed to limit "terrorists' ability to use the Internet and free speech."

and,

The president-elect of the Christian Coalition of America "has stepped down, saying the group resisted his efforts to broaden its agenda to include reducing poverty and fighting global warming." Rev. Joel Hunter said of the split, "When we really got down to it, they said: 'This just isn't for us. It won't speak to our base, so we just can't go there.'"

and,

"The Bush administration pleased farmers and frustrated environmentalists Monday by declaring that pesticides can be sprayed into and over waters without first obtaining special permits."

and from that last one here's the local interest angle:

"... if a permit is required, the costs would skyrocket."
