Open thread: You want to know how I feel?
What is it called if you are madder than hell?

Awake?
If you're not madder than hell, you're not awake.
Good to see you out and about, Dan.
I'm unhappy myself...
Try watching this... it will momentarily take your mind off how angry we all are...and ought to be. You are Navy aren't you? We gravel grinders don't EVER make mistakes like this. :)
Stan Bozarth
Hee-larious, Stan!
Yep, I was Navy. Four years at Annapolis. Three as a navigator on ships. And two jumping out of airplanes with the 82nd Airborne.
I never tried to run down a lighthouse, though. To my knowledge.
:)
I"m Not Going To Take It Any More!
why does that make me cry?
No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Too good to keep to myself
I found this in my meanderings at lunch earlier today. It's just too awesome, so I found the closest "Open Thread" and here ya go:
Original Passage:
"I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the same coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."-- to Samuel Kercheval, July 12, 1810.
Best damn Thomas Jefferson quote I have ever read! If ever therer were a definition written for the progressive political philosophy, this has to be it. Had to share.
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
Progressive = progress
Excellent quote. Thanks for posting it.
But what about the barbarous idiots running this country right now? Jefferson would so smack them down.
Oh, yeah
Absolutely no doubt.
Th.Jefferson would be lettin' loose some serious ass-whoopin' on this generation of barbarous idiots.
However, though T.J. be dead 200 years, still his writings smack at the neo-cons, haunting them, and his words condemn their every utterance.
So they've learned to edit and misquote him, Pat Robertson being the worst culprit. Which, of course, makes me mad as hell all over again.
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

I'm mad as hell...
And I'm not taking it, anymore.
We have 55 days, ladies and gentlemen. Let's remember that we're mad as hell. Let's use every one of those days to tell them we're not taking it anymore.
On November 7th, let's do something about it.

What have YOU done today to make the world a better place?
You're damn skippy.
You know that feeling you get, when your head itches and your neck is red and your eyes feel like they are on fire? That's about how I feel every day. Every time I hear another lie, another talking point that hides their immorality. Another innuendo that we Democrats are somehow LESS patriotic, LESS American, LESS. Bull.

So, I'm mad as hell, too.
Had too much time today and consequently, I wound up thinking way too much.
Here's how things went:
I have a few questions for the “NO Timetable” crowd:
What virus has infected us? Why can’t we just run government with reason and good sense? What is honorable about not being rational when you’re running a country?
Why the hell can’t America develop a plan for leaving Iraq?
Why does America have to keep insisting that we’re willing to remain in Iraq forever; stuck like a beached whale in the middle of a civil war, between factions that don’t like us, in the middle of an ancient culture we don’t understand and will never make any effort to understand? There is no goal for the U.S. in Iraq. There is no mission to accomplish anymore. Any one-stripe sergeant can tell you that situation means certain morale death for an army.
Could the answer to everything be, “controlling huge military bases in the middle east”?
Who the hell knows? All we really know is that the Bush Administration looks down on the people of America and doesn’t trust us to know anything it did, is doing, or plans to do; though they’re damn certain they need to know everything about us.
The Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Fox News insistence on “staying” a non-existent “course” is a toothless declaration. It is not possible for us to remain in country forever as things stand, and we have no plan to do anything but keep doing what we’ve been doing, only that we should all do it with more fervent belief.
PPFfffft.
There isn’t enough money in the world for us to borrow that will allow us to remain in Iraq indefinitely. Is Mr. Bush so stubborn that he will insist on staying in Iraq until our whole nation crumbles from within for lack of public rebuilding funds and federal investment money on our own soil? That’s like standing in the path of a moving train because you don’t want to move and lose your place in line. That’s just doorknob stupid.
So back to my original question: Why can’t America develop a plan for leaving Iraq?
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
Timetable.
The bs behind the Republican argument is this. If, we announced we were leaving in six months and the terrorists quit fighting until we left, then resurged to take over the country; then, why don't they stop fighting now and let the Iraqi's "stand up", America will "stand down" and leave. Then, they can take over.
If that was their plan, they could carry it out now. But, the truth is that if we leave many Iraqi's will quit fighting us. They will continue to kill each other, but even that will slow down. So, the terrorists will have a harder time recruiting and the citizens will start to turn against them.

We leave now or stay
forever. Those look like our only two options to me.
You got the GOP argument on the money, though, Robert. As many times as they repeat it we could all recite it in our sleep.
And I'm mad as hell that W won't shit or get off the pot. He's pissin' and fartin' around wanting it both ways: a win without any cost.
If we stay in Iraq forever, if America really wants to own Iraq, WE -- Americans, you and me, including the upperclasses -- WE will have to sacrifice. And not just a little bit. We'll have to sacrifice not just borrowed money, but our hearts, our blood, and our treasure.
We'll need a military draft. Period.
We'll need at least double the troops in country to get things under control and to end the lawlessness and bloodshed. At least double. The added troops will need MP experience. It will take several months to ready good MP companies even training here in the calm stable U.S. of A.
Does even Mr. Super Freeper think Iraq is worth that? Yeah ... right up until the draft boards are established on every MainStreet in America.
If we leave now, and by that I mean we get a plan to pull out rationally over the next year or two, it won't be pretty. It'll be damn ugly. In fact, people are going to die. 60 men were tortured and murdered in Baghdad alone today. It's already damn ugly.
