Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
The truth is in the eyes
Cause the eyes don't lie, amen
Remember a smile is just
A frown turned upside down
My friend let me tell you
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
I'm telling you beware
Beware of the pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Jealousy (jealousy)
Misery (misery)
Envy
I tell you, you can't see behind smiling faces
Smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)
(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)
I'm telling you beware, beware of the handshake
That hides the snake
Listen to me now, beware
Beware of that pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes
They don't tell the truth
Smiling faces, smiling faces
Tell lies and I got proof
Your enemy won't do you no harm
Cause you'll know where he's coming from
Don't let the handshake and the smile fool ya
Take my advice I'm only try' to school ya

From the taste of the article at the top of this page, it's apparent that Justice Orr is only concerned with Constitutional issues that will or have affected him personally.
Since he likely won't be trying to get gay married anytime in the foreseeable future, it just doesn't matter.

The Marriage Amendment wouldn't be in his personal "top five" things that need amending in the Constitution. Nothing about what his top five are, and nothing about the relative goodness or badness of the amendment itself.
But he did speak words aloud in the general direction of the amendment, so I'll give you a few bonus points for the effort.
Go to the NCICL site and do some hunting. The silence is deafening.
That said, you're right. Orr did mention the issue in response to a direct question, but he didn't speak to the issue in anyway that anyone could consider meaningful. Maybe 1984 deserves some bonus points for digging up this irrelevant sound bite, but Orr deserves a slap on the wrist for having the opportunity to take a stand and declining to do so.

Come on, Bob. We're waiting. Surely an issue of such sweeping import deserves an opinion from North Carolina's leading think tank.
Note to NCCU Law: Watch out, you might get what you're after.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Don't hold your breath

He didn't say much, that's for sure

Robot Bob Orr's comments were more meaningful
